Ella me pide sexo: Mak Donal, Atento
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Ella Me Pide Sexo from the artist Mak Donal and Atento.
A few days ago, we were with a group of friends using Spotify's blend tool, the one that mixes everyone's music and plays songs from each of us. The truth is that it always comes up with pretty random stuff, from songs I already know by heart to others I've never heard in my life. In the middle of all that, this song came up, Ella me pide sexo by Mak Donal featuring Atento, which had been chosen by my friend Mauro.
I've said many times that cumbia isn't usually one of my favorite genres. It was never music I listened to constantly, beyond a few specific songs that play at gatherings, pre-parties, or parties. Even so, I can't deny that it's a genre that's part of many people's daily lives and that it has songs with catchy lyrics.
I also feel that, compared to the music that is usually played everywhere today, there are cumbia songs that, even though they are simple, feel much better than any song that can be released today. Today, I feel more than ever that anyone can be an artist thanks to the autotune tool and the lack of creativity in today's instrumentals.
Mak Donal is a well-known Argentine cumbia artist from the 2010s onwards. I remember him as an artist who used to go to nightclubs and bars a lot, because I remember hearing cars driving by promoting his shows alongside another artist of the genre called Nene Malo.
The song I have selected for today is Ella Me Pide Sexo, which was by far Mak Donal's most successful song. I think that for a few months it was one of the most played songs in all the clubs that play cumbia in Argentina. It is also very popular on Spotify, with 8 million plays, which is a big difference from his second most listened to song, which has 3 million plays.
