Good evening everyone!
In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Platinum from the american artist Big Freedia.
Hasta abajo: Don Omar
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Hasta Abajo from the legendary artist Don Omar.
After focusing on genres such as rock and roll, pop, and electronic music, I want to change things up quite a bit with my choice today. What I've chosen today is closely related to my childhood, because that type of music was the first I ended up listening to.
I'm not a huge fan of reggaeton, but it has been the leading genre in Latin countries, and it was no exception to hear it at any party during my childhood. I remember that one of the first songs I heard in this genre was “Una llamada de emergencia” by Daddy Yankee. At that time, he was the leading artist on the scene, and I was increasingly surprised by songs like “Gasolina,” “Lo Que Paso Paso,” and “Rompe.”
Although Daddy Yankee had many hits and was one of the most listened to artists among my peers, he never became my favorite artist. If there was one artist whose singing style I really liked, it was a guy named “Don Omar.” In my opinion, he has the most iconic songs in the entire scene, such as Dile, Entre Tú y Yo, Salio El Sol, Danza Kuduro, Bandoleros (my favorite), Dale Don Dale, Ojitos Chiquitos, and the one I've selected for today's post: Hasta Abajo.
William Omar Landron Rivera, better known as Don Omar, is one of Puerto Rico's most important reggaeton artists. He began his musical career in the late 1990s, collaborating with some of the most renowned artists on the scene, such as Luny Tunes, Noriega, and Eliel.
However, his true fame would come a few years later, when he collaborated with Héctor & Tito, releasing “A La Reconquista” and “Dónde están las gatas,” which helped him establish himself on the scene managing to connect with more and more important artists.
With a solid foundation in the reggaeton scene, in 2003 he decided to release his first solo album: The Last Don. This album was a huge success and became one of the most important in the history of reggaeton, thanks to great songs such as Dile, Pobre Diabla, Intocable, and Dale Don Dale.
Hasta Abajo is one of the most iconic songs released by Don Omar. It was part of his third studio album, titled iDon, released in 2009. This album experimented with a genre quite different from reggaeton, namely electronic music, with songs such as Virtual Diva and Sexy Robotica.
