Living in Pain: The Notorious B.I.G, 2PAC, Mary J Blige & Nas
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Living in Pain from the iconic artist The Notorious B.IG, Tupac Shakur, Mary J Blige and Nas.
My choice today is once again related to one of the genres I enjoyed most during my adolescence and which I tend to bring up quite often. I'm talking about hip-hop, a genre I discovered thanks to video games and which, over time, ended up gaining more and more space in my playlists.
My first contact with this genre was playing Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Multiplayer, in roleplay mode. At that time, I was playing with some friends, playing quite different characters, but during one stage we had to play gang members, so to get a little more into character, we used to listen to the music that a person in that situation and from that era would listen to.
For quite some time, hip-hop remained there, as a genre I listened to in the background and quite casually. It wasn't until one boring afternoon that I ended up watching a movie/documentary called Straight Outta Compton. That movie really caught my attention because it told the story of several artists I knew by name but knew practically nothing about. That led me to become more interested in the history of the genre and to start looking for more artists to listen to.
From that moment on, I began to discover a lot of new songs and artists. Some I was already quite familiar with, others I knew only from a few songs, and others I didn't know at all. At that point, I started putting together a playlist where I saved songs on Spotify and listened again to songs I had heard once or twice before, but without really knowing who sang them.
Recently, while searching for new music to listen to, one song in particular caught my attention. It turns out that I found a song that featured several artists I really like, such as Nas and Mary J. Blige. I thought it was quite interesting to see them all together on the same track, so I decided to give it a try. The song I'm talking about is Living in Pain, and I ended up really liking it.
I suppose this song is also quite special because it brings together several artists from different parts of the United States and even unites two who would become rivals much later on, leading to the death of both: The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac.
