Good evening everyone!
In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Tha Shiznit from the legendary hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg.
Me Vas a Extrañar: Damas Gratis & Viru Kumbieron
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Me Vas a Extrañar from the band Damas Gratis.
I don't listen to music like cumbia, genres like RKT, trap, or urban music. I think that Argentine music has been in decline for a few years now, because it has lost its creative instrumentals. Nowadays, a singer's attitude tends to carry more weight than their talent when it comes to singing.
Despite all this, in my late teens I used to listen to music like cumbia or reggaeton from time to time. Back then, I used to go out to clubs a lot, and that was what was playing at the time, so I had no choice but to adapt. I remember that the graduation party for one of the sixth-grade classes was held at a prestigious nightclub in Ramos Mejia called Pinar De Rocha. For that party, they had spent a lot of money to hire one of the top artists of the moment: Pablo Lezcano and his band Damas Gratis.
Without being a fan of the genre, I always liked Damas Gratis' songs, and I think that in terms of creativity, vocals, and lyrics, they are on par with the music of the past. I have several favorite songs by the group, but my favorite song so far is Me Vas a Extrañar, in which they collaborate with an urban artist named Viru Kumbieron, and it is my choice for today. I am implementing it a lot in my posts to encourage more interaction between the author and the reader. It is a new feature that is great.
Damas Gratis is a cumbia villera band from Argentina that was formed in 2000. Pablo Lezcano had considerable experience at the time, having been the keyboardist for the iconic cumbia band Amar Azul, so he had a loyal following from the start. In the same year they were founded, they released their first album, Para Los Pibes, which featured several hits such as “Se te ve la tanga,” “Solo Aspirina,” “Quiero Vitamina,” and “Los Dueños del Pabellon.”
Me Vas a Extrañar is one of Damas Gratis' most iconic songs in recent times. On this occasion, they collaborated with artist Viru Kumbieron on an album she released featuring songs recorded at her live shows. The song has 164 million plays on Spotify and 540 million on YouTube.
