In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Hasta Abajo from the legendary reggeaton artist Don Omar.
Paint It, Black: The Rolling Stones
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Paint It Black for the legendary rock band The Rolling Stones.
For today's selection, I'm going to start by talking about one of the most iconic bands in the genre that dominated for many decades: rock ‘n’ roll. The Rolling Stones are one of the most important British bands in history. They were so famous that one of the most prestigious music magazines is named after them.
My history with the band goes back about 8-9 years, when I was enjoying the first console I ever owned: the PlayStation 2. I used to get hooked on the most basic games like Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, Pro Evolution Soccer, Need For Speed, and another game that had become popular because of its curious gameplay.
The video game series I'm talking about is none other than Guitar Hero. The first installment I played was the third: Guitar Hero III, Legends of Rock. If there's one thing I can highlight about this installment, which is undoubtedly the most famous, it's that the quality of the songs featured has been perfectly selected.
The first concert you give in the video game puts us on an illegal stage where everything starts to get out of control and we play an iconic song like Foghat's Slow Ride. Then we move on to playing great songs like Barracuda by Heart, but if there's one song that was a turning point for me, it's Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones. I'm not really a big fan of The Rolling Stones, nor am I very familiar with their musical repertoire, but I can't deny that I love that song.
The Rolling Stones are an iconic British rock ‘n’ roll band formed by the genius of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, Charlie Watts, and finally Bill Wyman. The band was heavily inspired by the blues genre, especially artists such as Chuck Berry, whose songs I have already shared several times.
The first album was released in 1964 and was named after the band itself. Many of the songs on this album were covers of hits by Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, and Jimmy Reed. In fact, only one of the twelve songs was written by the band's songwriters. Despite this, “The Rolling Stones” was a massive worldwide success, reaching #1 with several of its songs.
Paint It Black was released in 1966 and was part of the successful album Aftermath. Over time, it became one of the most famous songs in the history of the genre. It has appeared in games such as Guitar Hero III and, if I remember correctly, it also appeared in a trailer or scene from Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
