In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Mr. Brightside from the iconic band The Killers.
Platinum: Big Freedia
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Platinum from the hip-hop artist Big Freedia.
What I have selected today goes hand in hand with something I have talked about in many posts: the importance of VIDEO GAMES when it comes to showing us audiovisual art. I have always highlighted sagas such as Fallout, The Witcher, Kingdom Come, Bloodborne, Nier, and Grand Theft Auto as excellent examples, but there are also others that appear in more casual games.
My first example of this is a much-loved and much-hated series: FIFA, the number one soccer video game. Thanks to it, I have discovered many alternative artists who put their music in these games to seek more recognition for their music. This is one of the casual games from which I have taken the most music for my playlists.
But there is another game that has allowed me to discover some alternative artists, mainly from genres such as electronic music, but there are some other exceptions, such as today's. Recently, I was reviewing the goal songs I had in my inventory in the game and came across a hip-hop song that I really liked: Platinum by Big Freedia.
The truth is that these companies have always been focused on making money and don't really care about the customer; they just want to maximize their profits. But hey, they do make some good decisions in their video games, like the music they choose for their menus or other epic moments.
Big Freedia is a bounce artist, a subgenre of hip-hop with much faster beats and festive lyrics. He was quite important in popularizing this genre worldwide. Since childhood, he has had a lot of experience with music, as he used to sing in church choirs.
He began releasing albums in 2003, but did not achieve widespread recognition until a decade later. In 2014, he released one of his most important works, Just Be Free, which includes several of his greatest hits such as “Jump On It,” “N.O. Bounce,” and “Explode.”
One of his best-known songs was my choice today: Platinum. It was a single he released in 2021 and gained quite a bit of recognition thanks to its inclusion on the soundtrack of the iconic game Rocket League. That allowed him to attract new listeners worldwide, including me.
