Rising Star - I choose one song per day, Daily Rising Star statistics and giveaway of 150,000 starbits - El Aguante: Calle 13

In this space I will be giving away STARBITS, sharing my experience with a song, telling how I discovered it, and providing interesting information about it. Then I will include several tables with statistics of the Rising Star game.

Starting in May, I started to create a playlist to keep track of the last songs I commented on in my posts. It will be useful for me not to doubt if I had already talked about a song before or not. The last song is Ti Amo of the italoamerican artist Laura Branigan

My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is El Aguante of the latin rap group Calle 13.

Lately I've been listening quite a bit to Calle 13, a Latin rap group that managed to capture my attention. A few months ago I had listened to one of their songs, but I didn't even bother to add it to my Spotify. However, in the last month I stumbled upon their music again, and this time I connected much more with their style and lyrics. The result: I ended up adding several of my favorite songs to my “Like” list.

What I like most about Residente is the strong charge of social criticism that he transmits in his songs, especially when he addresses nefarious events that have occurred in our continent. However, the song I bring today has a different approach: it talks about the resilience of the human being, about how, despite so many difficult events, we are still standing. It is about his musical work called “El Aguante”:

Calle 13 was a band formed in Puerto Rico in 2004 by brothers Rene Perez (Residente) and Eduardo Cabra Martinez (Visitante). It also counted with the participation of his sister named Ileana Cabra (Ile) who contributed her voice in many of the songs of the group.

Their first success came with their debut album named after the band: Calle 13. It included hits such as Atrevete-te-te-te and Se Vale Tó-Tó, which became classics of the genre. Unlike the albums they released later, this one has a musical style closer to reggaeton than hip-hop.

"El Aguante" is part of the group's latest album, called Multi_Viral, released in 2014. It has 150 million plays on Youtube and 93 million plays on the Spotify platform.
