In this space I will be giving away STARBITS, sharing my experience with a song, telling how I discovered it, and providing interesting information about it. Then I will include several tables with statistics of the Rising Star game.
Starting in May, I started to create a playlist to keep track of the last songs I commented on in my posts. It will be useful for me not to doubt if I had already talked about a song before or not. The last song is Ruta 66 of the argentine artist Pappo.
Latinoamérica: Calle 13
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Latinoamérica of the latin rap-group Calle 13
Reggaeton is not my favorite genre, I consider that it marked the beginning of the decline of Spanish music. However, since my childhood I have listened to some artists of the genre, such as Don Omar, Calle 13 (who in their early days did reggaeton), Wisin & Yandel and Daddy Yankee.
Calle 13, in their first albums, was a reggaeton group, with songs like Atrevete-te-te-te and Suave. However, it gradually migrated towards rap, with a much more focused approach to the lyrics of their songs. What I liked most about the band was that transition, especially when they started making rap songs with a strong social and critical content.
Latin America has become one of my favorite songs by the band Calle 13. It is a profound and emotional tribute to our region, highlighting both its natural beauty and the strength and dignity of its people. The song makes a strong social critique of the foreign powers that, throughout history, have intervened in our countries, manipulating governments, plundering resources. One example is when mentioning Operation Condor, which was a program organized by the United States to establish dictatorships in most American territories, which caused disappearances, torture, assassinations and many other terrible things.
Calle 13 was a music group from Puerto Rico, formed by brothers Rene Perez Joglar, Eduardo Cabra and Ileana Cabra (in some songs). The band mixed various Latin genres, such as reggaeton, cumbia, salsa and rap.
Latinoamerica was released in 2010, for the album “Entren los que quieran”, this song was a collaboration with Calle 13 and a large group of artists from different regions of the continent: Susana Baca, Totó la Momposina, Maria Rita. This beautiful song won him a Latin Grammy Award for song of the year and also another one for “Best Recording”.
