My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Ackrite from the legendary rapper Dr. Dre.
I rediscovered today's song a few weeks ago, in a situation quite similar to one I've already described several times in other posts. I was with some friends on Discord, not really knowing what to do, until someone came up with the idea of setting up a kind of music competition using a Spotify feature that mixed everyone's music. Everyone rated the songs that were playing, and as often happens, what seemed like it would be quick ended up lasting all night. In the end, I won this competition.
In the middle of all that mix of songs, Sign of the Times came on. It wasn't a discovery as such, because it's a song that was very famous at the time, but it was an unexpected rediscovery. I had that typical feeling of saying, “I've heard this song a thousand times,” but never paying enough attention to know who it was by or what it was called. I remember hearing it in the car, on the radio, or in the background somewhere, but never sitting down to really listen to it. This time was different because it appeared on Spotify, where I was able to easily save it and add it to my “likes.”
Honestly, I knew who Harry Styles was, but I was never really a fan of that kind of pop music, except for the best bands and artists of his era, such as Justin Bieber, Backstreet Boys, One Direction, and others. I was always more into pop mixed with rock ‘n’ roll, and I've brought a lot of those songs here. The truth is, I liked Sign of the Times so much that I thought it was worth bringing it here.
Harry Styles is a well-known British artist in today's music industry. He began his career as part of the successful band One Direction, which was formed in 2010 and remained one of the most important bands in the world for several years. The group ended up splitting up in 2017, so Harry Styles decided to release his first solo album and named it after himself. My choice today is the first song on this album, which was a huge hit. Other notable songs include Sweet Creature, Two Ghosts, and Kiwi.
