Sunrise: Norah Jones
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Sunrise from the iconic american artist Norah Jones.
This is the second time I've featured a song by Norah Jones, and to be honest, it wasn't something I planned from the start. I just happened to really like the songs I heard by her and ended up choosing another one to write about. I discovered her thanks to a friend with whom, at the time, we were sharing our Spotify music on Discord. Basically, we would each show what we were listening to and comment on whether we liked it or not, without much ado.
At that stage, we were mainly listening to more classic pop music, especially songs from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. In the midst of all that, my friend ended up recommending an artist who caught my attention: Norah Jones. I saw that she had a good fan base even though I didn't remember ever hearing her name before.
The first song I heard, if I remember correctly, was “Don't Know Why,” which I liked a lot. That led me to find out about more songs and discover what would become my favorite song by the artist: “Sunrise.” In fact, I thought I had heard it a few times before, unlike the other songs, which I had never heard.
Norah Jones is an American artist who blends various characteristics from different genres such as jazz, pop, and soul. Her passion for music began when she was a child, which led her to start singing and playing the piano at an early age. With her experience, she began playing in local bars in New York, which helped her meet the person who would become her producer and help her release her first album.
With the help of her producer, she released her first album in 2002 and titled it “Come Away With Me.” For someone who was unknown at the time, it was a giant leap in her career, featuring songs such as “Don't Know Why,” “Seven Years,” “Feelin' The Same Way,” “Come Away With Me,” and “Turn Me On.”
The song Sunrise, which I have selected for today's post, ended up on her second album called Feels Like Home. In addition to the impact the album had due to the inclusion of Sunrise, it also featured other well-known songs such as What Am I To You?, Those Sweet Words, The Long Way Home, and finally The Prettiest Thing.
