In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Rise Up from the band Cypress Hill and the artist Tom Morello.
The Ballad of Heinsenberg: Los Cuates de Sinaloa
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is The Ballad of Heinsenberg from the band "Los Cuates de Sinaloa".
Today, I wanted to share a song from a genre that I have never featured in my posts before: corridos. I am not a fan of them, nor are they commonly heard in Argentina, as they are exclusively made in Mexico and perhaps another Central American country. Although corridos honor drug lords, I can't deny that there are some songs that are really good. The funny thing is that my choice today is not about a real cartel or mafia boss, but about a fictional character that many of us are quite fond of.
This fictional character is part of one of the most iconic series ever released on television. In my case, I started watching it during my teenage years after my mother recommended a series that had become her favorite. The story instantly caught my attention, as it was about a chemistry teacher who starts cooking methamphetamine with one of his former students who is addicted to it.
If anyone is unaware, the series I am talking about is Breaking Bad. As for its soundtrack, I would highlight the inclusion of some very good songs, such as A Horse With No Name by America, in addition to its main theme. It does not have a soundtrack as iconic as other series I have seen, but the other day I discovered a song that was made exclusively for the series.
The song is a corrido called “The Ballad of Heisenberg” performed by a Mexican band called “Los cuates de Sinaloa.” The song briefly tells the story of Walter White, also known as Heisenberg, in the world of drug trafficking. The song recounts acts that Walter White committed throughout the series and mentions how Mexican cartel leaders plan to kill him for getting involved in their business.
I had previously had the opportunity to hear the Heisenberg ballad, but without knowing that it was produced directly for the series. I came across it in several Instagram memes, as the part where it says “That guy is already dead, they just haven't told him yet” became quite famous. But I didn't realize until two weeks ago that it was from the series, when I saw the music video.
