In this section, I will no longer be handing out STARBITS, as those entries are not allowed. However, I will continue to share high-quality songs, share how I discovered them, and share some interesting facts about them. To top it all off, I will also include several tables with the statistics compiled by the Rising Star game.
Since May, I have been creating a playlist to keep track of the latest songs I have discussed in my posts. This will help me remember whether I have already talked about a song before or not. The most recent one is Roxane of the british group The Police.
Y dale alegria a mi corazón: Fito Paez
My song of choice on Spotify for today's post is Y dale alegria a mi corazón from the argentine artist Fito Paez.
For as long as I can remember, there has always been a lot of Argentine music playing in my home. My mother lived through the golden age of Argentine rock, so in the afternoons she would turn up the speakers to full blast with artists like Charly García, Gustavo Cerati, and bands like Los Abuelos de la Nada, Virus, and Los Twitz.
I always liked Argentine rock, but I had never shown enough interest to find out who sang the songs I liked. It wasn't until my teenage years, with the release of Spotify, that I was able to start finding new artists and bands on my own, mainly from the 21st century, such as Los Estelares, Ciro y los Persas, Attaque 77, Los Piojos, and Intoxicados.
A few years ago, I was pretty bored and ended up discovering one of Argentina's most historic bands: Los Abuelos de la Nada. Listening to their songs brought back many memories of my childhood, which led me to rediscover all their music and end up becoming a true fan of the group.
After spending days listening to the band's songs, I decided to delve deeper into the genre and discover other artists. That's how I gradually got to know songs by Charly Garcia, Gustavo Cerati, Spinetta, and the artist I've chosen today: Fito Paez.
Despite being my choice today, I'm not that big a fan of Fito Paez. I think he's famous for being contemporary and friends with various artists such as Charly Garcia and Spinetta. However, I don't think he has a very wide musical repertoire.
But there is one song that stands out and has been used in different contexts thanks to its popularity. One of the best examples is that it has been covered by several South American soccer teams. In this case, my team, River Plate, covered it to sing it every time they played a game in the Copa Libertadores competition. In one of the finals my team played in, Fito Páez performed one of his songs, taking advantage of his enormous popularity at the time.
