Living especially during the peak of summer, feels like being wrapped in an invisible fire blanket. The heat doesn’t just come from the sun it reflects off the streets, rises from the walls, and seeps into your energy. But over the years, I’ve found a few ways to keep myself cool, balanced, and sane.
My first and most trusted method is staying hydrated like it’s my job. I drink water constantly not just when I’m thirsty. I also add a pinch of salt and a splash of lemon sometimes to keep my electrolytes in check. Coconut water is my go-to when I feel drained. It’s like nature’s own energy drink.
I’ve made peace with loose cotton clothes. No matter how fancy synthetic fabrics might look, nothing beats the comfort of breathable cotton in this weather. I also cut my hair to the lowest cut
When it comes to food, I go light mostly fruits, curd, buttermilk, and seasonal veggies. Spicy or fried food just makes me feel worse in the heat, so I save that for rainy days. A bowl of chilled watermelon in the afternoon feels like a hug from the inside.
Power cuts and heatwaves? I’ve learned to manage them without frustration. I keep my room dark during the day by closing curtains, and open windows only early in the morning or after sunset to let in cooler air. A damp towel around my neck and a small fan near my feet do wonders.
Lastly, I slow down. Heat makes you feel rushed and irritable, so I take breaks, stay calm, and listen to my body. When it tells me to rest, I do and as well listen to cool and slow beat music using my ear buds. Cos no point pushing through and falling sick.
This summer, like every year, is tough – but with a few smart choices and patience, I’ve managed to stay healthy and centered.
