Many of us used to think what if we could send a letter to our past self, it would be better. Through the letter we could instruct, guide or encourage our past self and let them know how to protect themselves and make things easier. We know that it’s impossible till now, but we loved to imagine it. But in rare cases we think about telling something about our future self. Maybe it’s because our future self will know everything we know at the current time, and it is supposed to be the better version of ourselves. So, we never felt the need to send a letter to our future self even in our fantasy. What will you write to your future self of one year later? Is there anything to discuss? Let me share my thoughts.
I fully understand that my future self will be better version of mine and when it comes to guiding or giving instructions, there is no reason as my future self will know everything better than my current one. So, it’s useless to guide my future version or give instructions. Whatever we have, what we are experiencing now will be stored in the mind of my future version, writing those things in letters is not meaningful either. So, what can we write to our future self.
In the past I used to write diary on regular basis. It was my habit and it gave me a different kind of satisfaction. I used to write it because it became my habit. I never thought it could be useful to me any time. I didn’t pay too much attention to it and approximately 7/8 months later because of my curiosity I started to read my diary from the beginning. It was like I was reading my past thoughts through the diary. After reading I realized that with time in some specific case my thoughts changed in the 8 months. Most of the changes were positive but there were few negative changes also. I could figure out the negative change in myself and later I changed those negative habits which became possible because of the diary. I also figured out that I set some mini goal that I am supposed to achieve but with time I forgot. The diary acted as a reminder to me and later I became more focused and worked on achieving those goals.
So, if I tell a letter to my future version, I will write about what I think now and what I want to be. I will not forget to write about my goals and the reason behind them. I would love to share my current genuine feelings in the letter because I am sure the feeling of 1 year later will be different. I will remind myself why my current version is cool and why it should be maintained or improved. It’s kind of ultimatum because everyone doesn’t be in the better version of themselves after 1 year. The opposite situation can also occur and in that case, it will remind me that the old version is good and needs to be brought back.
I think I don’t need to say any more things to myself because I feel that my future version will be capable enough to understand things with the letter as I will surely remind me why I wrote the letter.
