My First Paycheck: An Unusual Feeling💃

in Indiaunited16 hours ago

Coming across this week's prompt took me down memory lane. I could remember that feeling of enthusiasm to earn, I had then, lol, when I graduated from secondary school.

I'd always wanted to be independent, not having to completely depend on my mom for all my needs/wants. Having lost my dad at a very early stage of my life.

I watched her go through the pain of taking care of my siblings and me. I felt for her and wanted to assist her in any little way I could.

As soon as I finished secondary school, while waiting for my results, I seized the opportunity and headed to the streets in search of a menial job. It didn't take long. I got one.

From the very first day at work I'd already had a mental calculation of how I would spend my money…that feeling of going to have my own money gave me the momentum to work harder.😂

I still remember how I felt the moment my boss handed me a GTB(Guarantee Trust Bank) cheque slip at the end of the month (I was actually expecting cash, though).

It was the first time I handled a check slip. You need to see my steps as I stepped out of her office, the excitement was second to none.😁

The following day I cashed it, bought 5 Apples and some oranges for my mom, she likes fruits a lot. Those were the first things I bought her from my first hard earned money.

Her display of gratitude and prayers for those little things made me teary with joy and still echoes in my heart whenever I remember that day.

I also bought a big pack of yoghurt for my siblings, bought footwear and a dress for myself and kept back some money for my transportation to work till the next payday.

A greater percentage of my subsequent earnings were saved to assist me when I gained admission into the University.

It was a feeling of fulfilment, even though the pay was small but the thought of being independent, empowered and a big girl doing 😀was an unforgettable experience.

This is my response to the prompt as presented by @indiaunited. Join the contest here if interested.

Paychecks are the real deal. Especially when you've already mapped out the way you want to spend thw money.

Before now, it is one thing to be given a cheque and another thing to show that you are now on that class of people that handle Paychecks.

Recently, technology has advanced so greatly that people doesn't feel the impact of currencies when they have it.

How I wish we can turn the hands of time.
I want to go back to that feeling of class and aura that follows the little little drops but yet valuable currency notes then.
They brought real happiness and joy than now.

Honestly, the feeling of knowing you now belong to the class that has purchasing power, gives additional power too, lol.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment, I appreciate it.
