One thing keeps becoming clearer to me as I grow older that no one truly ever gets to the top alone. Behind every success story people admire, there are countless of unseen hands that helped make it possible. Sometimes we only focus so much on hard work, discipline, and personal sacrifice that we forget the silent contributions of others along the way.

I used to admire the idea of the self-made person. The lone fighter who struggled in silence, overcame every obstacle alone, and built success purely through determination. But life has taught me that success is hardly that simple. And the truth is, every achievement is connected to people who supported us in ways we may never fully understand.
There is always that one teacher who spoke words that awakened confidence in us when we most doubted ourselves. A friend who encouraged us at our lowest moment and someone who recommended our name in a room we were never present in. A mentor who shared wisdom that saved us from costly mistakes. Even strangers sometimes play unexpected roles in changing the direction of our lives.
When I reflect on my own journey, I realize there are many moments where I would not have moved forward without the kindness, encouragement, advice, or opportunities given to me by others. Some people opened doors for me. Some simply believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself. Those moments really mattered more than they probably know.
And that realization changes the way I see success. It replaces arrogance with gratitude. It replaces entitlement with humility. It reminds me that no matter how talented or hardworking we are, we are still shaped by community, relationships, and the generosity of people around us.
None of us are built in isolation. We are all pieces of one another’s stories.
And maybe true success is not just about how far we go in life, but also about becoming the kind of person who helps someone else rise too. Because just as others helped us climb, someone else is hoping for a hand that could change their life forever from us.
