Or don't. It's really up to you!
Do You Like Games?
I think most people do. Why? Maybe because you might WIN a Game, and our brain is going to shoot off chemical bottle rockets that make us feel good! Maybe it comes from our hunter gatherer days.
The guys game was to strategize as a group about how to find and isolate a tasty high protein animal, then kill and cook it for the entire tribe to eat.
The ladies game was to collectively remember where the best fruits and berries grew so they could go back and pick them and give sugar energy to all the members of the tribe.
Those are the outcomes we want, anyway. But it doesn't always work out. You see, games can be won, or lost. People don't like to lose at the games we played when we lived in tribes of 150 people. Hunger and sickness are not fun. But that is what happens when people don't eat.
People are conscious and they remember their past. So when they win a hunting or gathering game, then they not only feel good when they eat, but they are even happier because they also avoided the hunger and sickness from previous losses. Double reward, in a way.

The hive-engine Token Game!
No, it's not a new game in the way you might think. No battle cards or fighting and healing creatures or crop simulations or city simulations. We do have those things on Hive and most have tokens.
I'm talking about hive-engine tokens that might be associated with a community and/or might just be a meme. And to me, and maybe to you, just the hunting for an interesting token, and the gathering of as many as I can get, IS A GAME!
I don't do much hunting and gathering of animals and fruits anymore. My family history shows no farming for at least 6 generations back. But as I expressed above, hunting and gathering is in our DNA - it is how we lived for many thousands of years in the past. Many of us are still predisposed to hunting and gathering and it now expresses itself as COLLECTING things.
I like to collect coins (pennies, dimes and quarters) and songs (on tape once but now as MP3s or on YouTube playlists) and computers (raspberry pi's, mini computers). Now in the crypto age, I can collect digital coins/tokens.
Why Collect Tokens?
I can think of 3 reasons.
Profit Hopes - Some buy hive-engine tokens thinking that they can sell them for a higher price in the future. It is tricky because they are denominated in HIVE tokens (actually SWAP.HIVE and there is a conversion fee to swap them into HIVE) and the price of HIVE varies 100+ X from All Time Low to All Time High. (about 7 cents to over 8 dollars if we look at the full 9+ year history, or about 8 cents to $3.42 for HIVE alone. Source - CMC) Then you have to swap the HIVE to another token(s) and then to fiat if you want to get all the way out. More fees and slippage.
Influence - If you collect and stake some hive-engine tokens then you can have influence in their posting communities. Just like HIVE itself, the more you stake, the more your UP vote allocates of the fixed reward pool to the voted post in rewards of the token. People who find it hard to be a HIVE Orca or Whale can get satisfaction from being that in these smaller communities.
Fun - The whole first part of this post was about the biology of collecting and why it feels fun, like winning a game. So if, like ME, you buy hive-engine tokens Just For Fun, then that can be enough of a reason to do so.
Serial Token Creators
I would imagine that there are people, or groups of people, who are among us and like to create token after token after hive-engine token. Why would they do this?
Profit Hopes - There is a cost to launching a hive-engine token, and further costs to allow them to be staked, and further costs to set up Liquidity Pools. But a token creator could probably make money too. They decide on Supply (Circulating / Total / Max) when they make the coin. Sometimes that Max is millions of times higher than Circulating and Total. They can change the Total by making new tokens out of thin air any time they want with a TOKEN CONTRACT operation. We can see it in the h-e explorer as "@creatorxyz received 99500000.00000000 XXXX from TOKEN CONTRACT" so they can print more money, in a way, at any time. Even at low prices, the tokens created either at the original token creation or any time later can me marketed at a profit since the new cost (after the one-time costs) is zero.
Influence - It probably feels good to see people buy a token you create! That's fine. No one is forcing anyone to buy any token and I already mentioned the 3 things that could satisfy the buyers above. I would imagine that a token creator who makes a token that is successful by some measure is going to gain a better reputation and maybe influence in the Hive society.
Fun - Creating Anything could be Fun! People love crafts and music and writing and starting businesses. Creating tokens and maybe a fun story and/or community based on the token can be FUN! Having the most tokens as the creator, at least at the beginning, can be fun. Printing more tokens at any time to get back to the top of the richlist can be fun too.
And You?
- How do you feel about hive-engine in general?
- How do you feel about hive-engine tokens? Name some you like! And bonus points if you give a reason why you like or LOVE a certain token. Name some you Do NOT like, and again feel free to say why.
- Inflation - How do you feel when a token creator prints tons of new tokens out of thin air, with no reason given? I don't like it but it is something they can do, and I know they can do it at any time so it's all good!
- Serial Token Creators - How do you feel about those who create token after token? Gives us so many choices! But can they really manage all their token projects? Should we care? After all, maybe it is all JUST FOR FUN!
