She's a girl who plays the drums, but she wants to do more than just play. She longs for something that will allow her to excel in music. Saludos cordiales estimados y apreciados amigos de Hive y de esta espectacular comunidad. Hoy les quiero compartir mi nueva historia, esta está dedicada a Colette. Ella es una chica que toca la batería, pero quiere hacer algo más que solo tocar la batería. Desea algo para poder superarse en la música. Being a drummer wasn't part of Colette's initial plans. At first, she aspired to be a singer, but as she learned and immersed herself more in music, she realized her place wasn't with her voice. She had more talent for keeping and playing rhythm, which indicated she should be a drummer. Many disagreed with her decision to make this change, especially her parents and closest friends who already saw her as a singer, not a girl who played drums. Some of her friends even told her that this role in music was for men, not for girls.

She had to explain to them that this was what she loved, and that being a singer wasn't for her. Besides, music is for everyone, not just one specific person; both women and men can perform anything, there are no rules. These are just perceptions people have formed. So, little by little, she was able to convince them all, and since she played the drums so well, she was right; she was indeed in the right place.

Ser baterista no estuvo en las planes iníciales de Colette. En un principio ella aspiraba a ser una cantante, pero según fue aprendiendo y metiéndose más en la música supo que su lugar en ella no iba a ser con la voz. Ella tenía más talento para seguir el ritmo y tocarlo, cosa que le indicó que debía ser baterista. Muchos no estuvieron de acuerdo en que ella diera ese giro, sobre todo sus padres y amigos más cercanos que ya la veían como una cantante, no como una chica que toca la batería. Incluso algunos de sus amigos le dijeron que ese lugar en la música era para hombres no para chicas.

Ella tenía que explicarles entonces que eso es lo que le gustaba, y que ser cantante no era lo de ella, además la música es para todos, no para una persona en concreto, tanto mujeres como hombre pueden interpretar lo que sea, no hay reglas en eso. Son solo percepciones que se ha hecho la gente. Así que poco a poco los pudo convencer a todos y como tocaba tan bien la batería superior que tenía razón, efectivamente estaba en el lugar correcto.

When she was sufficiently prepared and had learned and studied enough, it was time to start playing. She aspired to join a band and grow there. But it wasn't as easy as she thought. Some groups looking for a drummer considered her unsuitable because she was a girl, and that might tarnish their tough-guy image. This happened a lot in rock and metal bands where the tough-guy image was important.

These and many other experiences showed Colette that there is also darkness in music, and many things don't align with the idea that music is for everyone. Many didn't practice that philosophy, even though they promoted it or even mentioned it in their songs. Seeing this discrepancy and this rejection made her change her approach to her musical career. She thought that perhaps she was looking in the wrong place and in the wrong way.

Cuando estuvo suficientemente preparada y había aprendido y estudiado suficiente era momento de empezar a tocar. Ella aspiraba a unirse a una banda y ahí poder crecer. Pero no fue tan sencillo como ella pensaba. Algunos grupos que buscaban a un baterista la consideraron no adecuada para el grupo, porque era una chica, y eso tal vez les podía quitar su buena imagen de chicos duros. Esto pasó mucho en bandas de Rock o metal donde la apariencia de gente dura era importante.

Estas y muchas experiencias más le mostraron a Colette que en la música también existe la oscuridad y muchas cosas no se adecuan a la realidad de la frase de que la música es para todos, muchos no practicaban esa filosofía a pesar de que la promovían o hasta lo mencionaban en sus canciones. She wanted to join a band, but it seemed things wouldn't be that way after everything she'd seen. Her decision was to create her own band, made up entirely of women. Of course, men could eventually join too, but she wanted to raise awareness about the issues in the music industry and try to change the mindset of others in Buskeria by showing them that girls can also succeed in music regardless of their role within the band.

The idea was simple: to form a band by changing the established roles—female guitarists, female keyboardists, and so on—so that every position in music traditionally considered a specific role would be filled by a woman. This clearly wouldn't be a traditional band like the others. Although the idea was simple, it wasn't easy to put into practice, especially since finding all the members would be a challenge.

Quería unirse a una banda, pero al parecer las cosas ya no serían así luego de ver todo lo anterior. La decisión que tomó al respecto fue ella misma crear una banda, formada únicamente por mujeres. Claro eventualmente podrían unirse hombres también, pero ella quiera solo dar un poco de visibilidad a este asunto que estaba pasando en la música y tratar de que otros en Buskeria cambiaran su forma de pensar al ver que las chicas también pueden triunfara en la música sin importar su rol dentro de la banda.

La idea era sencilla, formar una banda cambiando los roles impuestos, es decir guitarristas mujeres, tecladistas mujeres, y así que cada puesto en la música que es considerado para un rol especifico sea interpretado por una chicha. Esta claramente no sería una banda tradicional como las demás. Aunque la idea era sencilla no fue nada fácil llevarla a cabo, sobre todo porque encontrar a todas las integrantes del grupo sería un problema.

With her savings, Colette launched a website where girls could register and apply to join the group in any of the available roles. But only a few signed up. So she had to find the rest, which was the hard part because there weren't any nearby. Colette spent a large portion of her savings just traveling around Buskeria, searching for the remaining girls. She asked in every town for girls who wanted to join, often in very remote locations. She also read many stories from girls who had gone through similar experiences.

Although it was very expensive and time-consuming, she was able to assemble the group. She was overjoyed to see them all together. They all knew they had a mission to accomplish, which fueled their enthusiasm. Being the only band of its kind in Buskeria attracted a lot of attention. This led to many views on social media; they were the talk of the town, and as a result, they were able to reach almost everyone through word of mouth. Their music was paramount, but their message of unity and breaking down barriers was their most powerful. The mission has only just begun, because now comes the most complex part: making everyone understand that music is free again, and so it will be.

Con los ahorros que tenía Colette abrió un sitio web, en el las chicas que quisieran podrían registrarse y pedir ser parte del grupo en el rol que quisieran de los que se pedían. Eso les dio muchas vistas en sus redes, eran el tema de conversación y como resultado pudieron llegar a casi todos con el boca a boca de la gente. Su música era lo más importante, pero el mensaje de estar unidas y romper las barreras impuestas eran su mensaje más poderoso. La misión no ha hecho más que empezar porque ahora falta lo más complejo, hacer entender a todos que la música es nuevamente libre, y así será.
