Tamara works for a small company. This company writes songs and sells them to singers and other interested parties. They also rent out songs for others to use in exchange for a percentage of the profits. To write so many songs and have something to sell, they have a good team of songwriters. Tamara recently joined that team. Before starting this job, she had written songs independently and had been successful. Her name appeared in the credits of some songs that became somewhat popular.

That's how the company contacted her to join because they saw her talent. She accepted without hesitation because working with them gave her access to research tools for her songs, such as what's trending at the moment or what people like. She was also offered a fixed salary and substantial bonuses if one of her songs was purchased and became a hit. In her first few days, she presented some songs she had already written. They were well-received, which helped her stand out a bit.

Antes de entrar a este trabajo ella había escrito canciones de forma independiente, y le había ido bien. Su nombre apareció en los créditos de algunas canciones que se hicieron un poco populares.

Así que así fue como la empresa la contactó para unirse a ellos porque vio que tenia talento. Ella aceptó sin dudarlo porque estando con ellos tenia acceso a herramientas de investigación para sus canciones, como por ejemplo lo que más pega en el momento o lo que le gusta a la gente. Además se le ofrecía un salario fijo y bonos muy grandes si una de sus canciones escritas era comprada y llegaba a ser un éxito. En sus primeros días ella presentó algunas canciones que ya tenia previamente escritas. Fueron bien recibidas y eso la ayudó a destacar un poco.

But things weren't as easy as she thought. After a while, her superiors started asking her to do specific and more demanding work. Before joining the company, she had a certain amount of creative freedom because she could choose what to write songs about. But now she couldn't choose her topics as freely as before. Although she still maintained some autonomy, she wasn't used to that pace of content creation. So, little by little, she began to experience writer's block. Her songs were now rougher and less sentimental than those she had written years before.

Luckily, many of them were successful, so her superiors hadn't yet noticed her significant drop in creative output. But one day, they asked her to write a specific song on a topic she had never written about before. This song would be important because it was for a famous male singer who had requested it from the company. For the board of directors, this assignment was very good because it would be highly profitable. Since Tamara had already demonstrated that she knew how to write good, catchy songs, they gave her this important job.

Pero no todo era tan fácil como ella pensaba. Luego de estar un tiempo sus superiores comenzaron a pedirle que hiciera trabajos específicos y más exigentes. Antes de entrar a la empresa ella tenia cierta libertad creativa porque podía elegir sobre que cosa escribir las canciones. Pero ahora ella no puede elegir los temas tan libremente como antes. Aunque aún mantiene cierta autonomía no está acostumbrada a ese ritmo de creación de contenido. Así que poco a poco empezó a bloquearse mentalmente. Sus canciones escritas ahora eran más toscas y menos sentimentales como las que hacía años atrás.

Aunque por suerte muchas de ellas tuvieron éxito así que sus superiores no notaban aún su gran bajada en rendimiento creativo. Pero llegó un día en el que le solicitaron que escribiera una canción específica sobre un tema del que nunca antes había escrito. Esa canción sería importante porque sería para un hombre cantante famoso que la había solicitado a la empresa. Para la mesa directiva este encargo era muy bueno porque sería beneficioso económicamente en gran medida. Como Tamara ya había demostrado anteriormente que sabía hacer buenos temas y que pegaban pues le dejaron este trabajo importante.

She didn't want to lose her job, as it gave prestige to her career and the opportunity to work with the biggest singers—the dream of many songwriters. But her mind, still unaccustomed to assigned songwriting, was playing tricks on her. She had a mental block for days. When her superiors asked if she was working on the song, she said yes, but in reality, she was stuck without any concrete progress. She didn't know how to write a song about such a complicated topic as life in the future. She didn't know how to make it a hit.

The worst part was that the deadline for submitting a first draft to her superiors was fast approaching, and she still had nothing. If she didn't meet the deadline, she could be fired, or they could assign her task to someone else, which would be seen as censorship for not meeting the deadline. Everyone was under pressure, not just her. She was under pressure from her superiors, and they were under pressure from the board of directors, who in turn were under pressure from the singer's request and deadline. So there was a lot of stress in the air that only contributed to her shutting down even more.

Ella no quería perder el trabajo pues pertenecer a él le daba prestigio a su carrera y oportunidad de trabajar con los más grandes cantantes, eso es el sueño de muchos escritores de música. Pero su mente que aún no estaba acostumbra a temas de canciones impuestas le estaba jugando una mala pasada. Se bloqueó mentalmente durante días. Cuando sus superiores le preguntaban si estaba trabajando en la canción ella les decía que sí, pero e realidad seguía estancada sin avances concretos. No sabía cómo escribir aquella canción sobre un tema tan complicado sobre la vida en el futuro. No sabía cómo hacer que pegara.

Lo peor es que la fecha de presentar un primer borrador a sus superiores ya se estaba acercando y ella aún no tenía nada. Si no cumplía con el plazo dado podía ser despedida o le podían su tarea a otra persona, lo cual sería visto como una censura por no cumplir con los plazos. Todos estaban presionados y no solo ella. Ella por sus superiores, y ellos por la mesa directiva que a su vez estaban presionados por el pedido y fecha que dio el cantante. Así que había un gran estrés en el aire que solo contribuía a que ella se cerrara más.

Tamara almost gave up and handed the project over to someone else many times. But every time she wanted to, she reminded herself why she was there and all the opportunities she had. So she always held back to think it over. Then she started to think it over, and since she realized the answers weren't in her head, she began interviewing others to see if she could understand what they thought about life in the future. She interviewed young people, children, and older adults. Each one gave her a vision of what they hoped for in the future. This vision was finally what gave her the ideas for what to write in the song.

They loved it; they realized it would be a huge hit. She gained their trust and more responsibility, and she was also promoted and would earn more. It was much more than she ever thought she could achieve. This taught her that inspiration and answers are there; you just have to look for them.
