1889 Dos Centavos and 1948 10 Centavos Argentinian Coins

During my travels this week, I managed to stop in at a local coin shop called "Daniel's Coin Shop". I walked in and spoke with a man. The first thing I asked is "Are you Daniel?" Turned out it WAS Daniel!!

The selections seemed a little sparce, mostly numismatic rather than silver rounds. I didn't come in in intending to buy a ton, but I had a budget of about $20 - $40.

I maximized that budget. He had a box on the counter labeled $5.00 $3.00 per item. I perused the selections and EVERYTHING in the box was worth more than three dollars. I bought 8 items from the box and another $15 item.

Among the "deals" was an Argentinian Coin set, with a sampling of 11 coins. The style of the coins reminds me of old US coins. The large old penny really caught my attention. The obverse is very handsome, even with the normal wear and tear of circulation.

I couldn't see the reverse, but when I got home, I removed it from it's packaging and discovered the back was not in great shape. But the design is still very nice and the date of 1889 was clearly readable.

To me, this coin ALONE was worth $3.00, let alone some of the others that came in the set.

Another gem is this 1948 bronze Libertad. A bit worn, likely cleaned, but still had great eye appeal.

The reverse had sort of an art-deco look to it, popular in the 30's and 40's. Very appealing coin - again, I would have payed a few dollars for this coin alone.

I'm not huge in collecting foreign coins, but because of the interesting designs and affordability, I may consider beginning an Argentinian coin collection!

What do you think? Do you have any historic coins from Argentine?

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Nice Argentine coins! They have produced some nice coins over the years. I love shops with a clearance bin, I once found a double die Mercury dime in one that was placed there on accident. It was pretty cool. Nice buys!

All the coins look great, even though several years have passed they still look good, my favorite is the 1889 from Argentina.

Those are some very cool coins, Benjamin! I never officially collected coins, but it sort of happened by itself over the course of years, with me ending up with a diverse array of them from all over the world, including Argentina. I found them fascinating. Great finds, my friend! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

I don't have any silver Argentine coins, maybe a base metal coin somewhere if I can find it. Ah, an old banknote I got.

Of course I got it for the sailing ships in case I come across a silver Argentine coin.
