Don't See These in Our Change Much Anymore

I found this coin in our vehicle and confirmed it was from one of my children. It surprised me, since I don't see half-dollars very often outside the context of coin collecting. It's amazing to think that this coin is now FIFTY years old!

I was surprised with the detail on this coin, not that it's in great shape, but that all the features are large, being a fairly large coin. They really don't make them like they used to. In the 60's and 70's, coins had a deep relief and makes the features really seem to pop out.

It's really noticeable on the reverse, with all the elaborate details of the eagle on the great seal. Again, even with the scratches and dents, this coin has really held up well. All the text is clear and details like the individual eagle's wing feathers are pretty sharp.

It's an handsome coin and I wish modern half-dollars continued to have this deep-relief. The designed has still not changed, even now in 2024.

But the relief is flat on the modern coin and they tend to get damaged very easily in circulation.

If not for the date, I wouldn't think there was much of an age difference between these two!

Do you have a collection of Kennedy Half-dollars?

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.

Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.

I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

It's like our Canadian 50 Cents coin. Very rarely seen in circulation but still minted at just below 100,000 pieces for proof-like sets, premium presentation sets, and still legal tender. I got a bagful of the older nickel metal halves, I tried to spend one just to watch the vendor's reaction.

It's interesting how certain coins are kept almost for nostalgia, like the US Silver Dollar worth many times it's face value. I heard a story where someone used an original-style $50 at a McDonalds and they refused it, saying it was a fake!

It's amazing alright.
Generations of humanity growing up having little experience in handling cash let alone real money. Lulled into fake fiat money.

I sure hope I'm right about the Reset... So far, so good...

I hope you're right too. If you are correct, would you send me some penny rolls?

Instead of Pennies, try Quarters... I actually like the $1 Coins... If you can't find them at your local Bank, you can try the U.S. Mints Product Schedule... You can probably get back everything taken from you with a few $10 Rolls of Quarter Dollar Coins... Think of each roll as if it were 1,000 of todays Fiat USD's...

😍👍🏻

Since the penny has been discontinued, and there's a possibility that the nickel may also be phased out or made from a different material, the fifty-cent coin could make a comeback. Idealistically, I’d like to see more dollar coins in circulation.

It would be interesting seeing this shift in our cash. I predict a $2 and $5 US coin in the future, maybe even a $10 coin. Paper money starting at $20, $50, $100 and adding $200 (or $250) and $500 and even maybe bringing back the $1000 bill.

Let's make CASH great again! It's not just for drug dealers and pimps - it's money for the everyday man!

Greetings @gratefuleveryday ,

What a lovely coin indeed....they would make good gifts. ^__^

Kind Regards to you and your family,

This coin is 50 years old, so to speak, and from what I've read, it looks intact, with some age-related details, but as you say, even the relief can be easily seen due to its size.
I don't own a half-dollar coin. To be honest, I don't have coins, my business is real estate

I know I'm getting old when a coin that doesn't seem "vintage" is actually half-a-century old! Real estate is a better investment than coins, although sometimes more difficult to liquidate in a pinch.

Do you have a collection of Kennedy Half-dollars?

I have not heard of these before until now but these look great.

They're not exactly rare, but they're not common either. !BBH

So very true my friend, the relief on the older silver coins was always so much better!👍😊
I guess that’s what we should expect with Fiat since the silver contentis all gone!🙄

I miss the silver. The many coins of silver in the pockets of our parents and grandparents has been looted from us. There should have been riots in the streets when precious metal was pulled from circulation. Well, maybe not "should have been riots", I don't advocate riots, but perhaps a NOTABLE historical (mostly) peaceful protest of some sort. !BBH

Very well, stated my friend, I 100% agree!👍
If you read the constitution, we are only supposed to make coinage out of gold and silver. How did they get around that?🙄

Article I, Section 10, Clause 1 says “No State shall... make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts...” since the "United States of America" is not a single STATE, but a union of States, it is said that it doesn't apply. And they also claim this doesn't apply, since they are not making "coin" but paper "notes".

If you see "goldbacks", they look like dollars, they are literally gold "coin" produced for various States. True constitutional money that cannot be made illegal because of it's clear adherence to the above clause in the constitution.

So very interesting they found a loophole or so they believe…..🙄

You see them all the time at the blackjack table! That's about the only time you'll run into them... I keep hoping they'll permanently replace the old dead dude club on all of our money!
!BBH

I remember seeing them at the slot machines back in the day too, they're very warn by going through the machines so many times! I also remember the nickel slots, how many old warn nickels from the 40's and 50's still circulating through the machines, stuck in an infinity loop. This was many years ago, I wonder if nickel slots (using actual nickels) even exist anymore?

!BBH

I used to have some of those old half dollars. I haven't really seen modern versions of them, so I never noticed the relief. As with many things, I prefer the older model. Cool find, Benjamin! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

It's stunning putting older coins next to newer ones, same design but the new ones look counterfeit by comparison!

That's so interesting, though not surprising! I'd say most modern fiat money is basically counterfeit! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

This coin looks very beautiful and attractive. On one side of it, the eagle can be seen spreading its wings, which looks very beautiful. While the inscription on the other side that we believe in God we trust further increases the value of this coin.

The phrase "In God we Trust" is required on all US coinage, it's a good addition to the design. !BBH

Just got my kid reading his first turtle twin book. What are your favorites?

!PIZZA !GIFU

Awesome! Out of the 13 books we currently have, my children have a couple of favorite Tuttle Twin books: namely "Creature from Jekyl Island", "Road to Surfdom", "Food Truck Fiasco", and "The Search for Altas". Notable mention is "Education Vacation".

great. I’ll pick some of those up next. He is reading one about the law. I cannot remember the name.

Beautiful coin

50 years! wow, it will be amazing when that coin turns 100 years old.

What will the world look like in 2074? Very different, I would suspect. !BBH

Since you published a post 16 days ago about (literal) gold in your wallet, I wonder if you also think about buying some (literal) gold coins for your collection. 🤯🤓 !HOPE !INDEED !HUG !DIY

I have a few, we'd be much better off with more. Most of my literal gold coins are flat and rectangular and thin enough to fit in a wallet. If I were in a better financial state, I'd get some thicker ones that have more than 1/1000'th ozt weight. But for now, these are the gold "coins" that I stack. Along with novel 50 cent pieces like the specimen above.

While it's already fun collecting such gold bills and gold coins, it would be even more !FUN if such can be used to pay for products and services. 🤑😎😏 !LOLZ !DIY

I was so mad when I found out I was cloned.
I was litteraly beside myself.
