In a post I made on February 9, I showed some pieces of street art that have since disappeared. This one is still there, but it will disappear soon because the building's facade is about to undergo renovation work.

It is a graffiti piece over 20 years old located on Rua dos Gatos, right in the heart of Coimbra (Portugal). The facade is set to undergo renovations; the surface on which the graffiti is painted is a window that will eventually be glazed to provide natural light for the restaurant located there. The power of photography to capture the present moment—and the ability to share it within this community—preserves these ephemeral works of art for posterity.

This is musician Mark Knopfler, guitarist and lead singer of the legendary band Dire Straits. The blur on his face is a nod to the cover of the single “Money for Nothing,” from the album Brothers in Arms. An iconic musical work that spawned several singles that were massive hits and bestsellers in the 1980s.
The band disbanded in 1995 after releasing six studio albums and winning numerous awards. Among them was the 1986 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group (for “Money for Nothing”).

I asked ChatGPT to create a simulation of what the building will look like after the renovation work is complete.
So, perhaps by showing this post to the owner, I can convince him to keep the Mark Knopfler (which was also restored by the AI) on the other wall of the restaurant.
