Gene’s Three Tune Tuesday Picks For Tuesday August 5th! 🎸Picking Tunes From Independent Record Label Releases That Still Managed To Break It Big! 💿 The Offspring! The Hives & Arcade Fire! + Rancid Punk Rock Bonus Jam! + Gene Talks Tunes Vlog 🎙️
This week for Three Tune Tuesday I’m picking tunes from three albums that came out on independent record labels but still beat the odds and hit it big mainstream success wise. We’ll start with the label Epitaph records and frankly stick with them for all but one pick! I discuss more in vlog below! All but one were released on Epitaph records which was a small independently run punk label that somehow kept up and pressed 10 million Offspring records (mostly CD’s). That’s my first tune, The Offspring!
In fact Epitaph is the same label The Hives were on when the song “Hate To Say I Told You So” was a hit! That’s tune number two!
Then we move to Arcade Fire and there 2010 record which won Grammy for album of the year in 2011! Not rock or alternative album, the big prize Album Of The Year! Wild and only time an independently released album did so. That’s tune number three!
Last up it’s the bonus tune! The band Rancid which admittedly didn’t do the numbers the rest did, but they did get alt rock radio & MTV play! Even played SNL! In fact I think I’ll include that performance below! Enjoy!
