I haven't been able to read much these days, and I feel bad always just writing, without thoroughly curating, so I thought I'd read posts, and correlate them to what I was thinking about writing, reflecting on it and see what comes up.
What is work?
Toluwanispecial post is about the importance of work. How much space it takes up in our life. It's a little contrary to the new-age "work-life-balance" stuff which I never really liked, personally. I always think about it more of a "work-life-fusion", where both aspects are intertwined. That would be the perfect scenario, that we can find a work that lets us live at work and work in life.
We should choose a career that gives us purpose, not one that only pays the bills but leaves us with regrets.
It's a luxury to be able to do so. One of our crew just quit because he was offered an apparently better paying job at the municipality. It was a decision for bills - and even that is uncertain, as they have in on 3 months trial before he signs a contract, and then the contract has another 3 months trial where he can be fired without reason, and then the election is around the corner and new mayors love to terminate all the last contracts signed to put their own people in.
But it's his decision. I'm quite happy - because I'm back at work now. Tuesday and today I went out selling the bread, and it felt good to do the ground work again. Because there was something that was bugging me, the amount of hours that everyone was working in sales. Was my system broken? Were sales really that bad?
The number of hours we work does not always determine how much money we will make.
This was true. I finished the work within 7-8h, selling almost everything. It's being organized. Being quick. Being precise and trained in movements. It's education, too, speaking different languages, being able to joke. I'm glad I'm back at work. I'm reading less on HIVE, but it feels good anyway.
What to work for?
Shiftrox write about two things that for me go hand in hand, in a maybe unusual way. Sadness and Work. Feeling the sadness, allowing ourselves to feel it, to live it, to work through it internally and eventually convert it into the memory of an experience. Again, the perfect case. But reality is full of doubts, full of self-questioning, full of ifs. What for?
One of the reasons I'm happy to do external work again is that I feel like right now, I can't to much internal. For the moment, until Lily is back, if the governmental agencies ever decide to do their job. I can only read so much, think so much, write so much. Eventually, I always recur to work. Still a better cure for worries than Whiskey.
The good work.
Selfhelp4trolls is working hard on his first album. And it sounds like a lot of work. Not because it just is, but because they want it to be. They know that they can go further, make it better, improve. He talks about perfectionism, I'd say it's just a healthy attitude. Perfectionism is when you don't know when to stop. When you can't estimate the point where the effort input does not justify the improvement output.
These days, I observe more of apparent satisfaction in mediocrity, calling everything else being "perfectionist" and "out of work-life-balance". Everything gets spun eventually to be an excuse to not improve. Selfhelp4trolls is surprised that he's gotten so good at EQ, and he's happy about it. Truly happy, satisfied, nurtured by the results of his work. Or at least I read it that way. Isn't it great to be just writing, and it's noticeable how happy one is?
The hard work.
Meno has a dream. To create the perfect Hive app. And he's working hard on it, the old fashion way - trial and error. I'm very familiar with that one. How much dough I wasted! Literally and figuratively. But errors must ocurr so we can learn. Yes, I left that typo there because of the irony. "Occur" is one of my nemesis words. Maybe with this I'll remember that it's double "c", not "r" - don't ask me why that's even an issue, I don't know.
These days, I see many people discouraged so easily. One mistake, and they're out of it. Don't they know the amazing feeling of finally getting it right? And the little spikes in the middle, each time you realize something, learn something, and hence improve what you're working on? There is so much joy in errors!
Or maybe I'm just weird.
I read a few more, of course. And I could keep writing, as everything can relate to work. AI and how we use it by Honeydue, leading to 8-hearted-spiders by Riverflows.. I could go on about who to work with and how to work with, based on Acidyo's very long post. But 900 words is enough I'd wager. And I have to sleep - tomorrow is market day. More work!

There will always be proud and selfish people, and it doesn't make any sense to me to bury a code that could be beneficial for community just because one didn't get funding.
