I recently came across an auction for scrap Sterling. I was able to get it for 80% under melt, so not too bad of a deal. From the pictures, it looked to be some sort of candle holder at one point.
It arrived in the mail today, so I took it out and did my due diligence.

I checked to make sure it was stamped Sterling.

Check. I held a Neodymium magnet to it to make sure it wasn't magnetic. No reaction. Excellent. It had the texture and sound of Sterling that had been wrapped around a base metal, plaster or cement. Then, I noticed the face.

I could see traces of what looks like wax, so part of me thinks this was some sort of candle holder statue at one point. Lastly, I always weigh these. I was told it was 179 grams.

Perfect. This is just a basic kitchen scale for cooking, so more than likely the true weight is closer to 179 grams. This will be added with the other scrap I found and be sent off to the refiner.
I sold off a large number of the bars I got from the last load, and they were gone within maybe ten minutes flat, even at $3.50 over spot! I felt bad, because some were late to the game and missed out. I assured them there will be more, so at least it's great the bars I get back from this will sell quickly!
