Today was our daughter's twelfth birthday. She is very much into art, so my wife ordered a custom honey cake with black currant.
Yesterday, I was working an extra four hours in between ten at night and two in the morning. We were upgrading our Azure Kubernetes cluster from 1.27.x version to 1.30.12 version as well as upgrading Windows 2019 Datacenter to Windows 2022 Datacenter as well as our Ubuntu Linux nodes.
Everything went smoothly, but because we did so much upgrading as well as a production release, it took a very long time.
This morning, I woke up around seven in the morning and did some more work before driving my mother in law to a social security office during my lunch time break.
It was an interesting trip. We came in and took our number from the machine even though we had an appointment. While we waited, we observed a homeless man sitting on the office floor next to us and going about packing and unpacking his stuff.
Then a lady that looked like she was wearing some traditional far east outfit came up to a window and started talking to the Social Security office lady. Almost right away, a man came up to the same window and started complaining that his number was D52 and her number was D66.
A security guard came up to them and told him to step back, and numbers are not called in sequence. The dude told the guard to chill out but returned to his seat.
Then the lady started to get louder and louder as she was talking to the office worker. The worker was telling her that she could not help her with her request, but the lady kept screaming louder and louder.
My mother in law asked what language the lady was screaming in, I told her English just with a very thick accent. Eventually, the office lady closed her window and drew down her window curtain.
The lady kept standing there, shuffling her papers and talking to herself. The guard approached again and told the lady that she was done and needed to leave.
The lady paid no attention to him and kept going about her business. The guard made several more requests for her to clear the space so that others could get their turn. She didn't pay any attention...
Then the guard returned to his post, put on black gloves, and opened both doors to the outside, so they stayed open, then calmly approached the lady and took her backpack and a couple bags and carried them outside.
The lady stopped talking to herself, picked up her papers, and quietly rushed after the guard outside. The homeless man next to us stopped eating on the floor and pulled out a hand written Jesus Is Lord sign and started walking around in his heavily soiled outfit.
Portraits of JD Vance and Donald Trump hanging over our heads were witnessing the action quietly. Soon there after our number was called.
I guess this is just another day at the Social Security Office...
