A blessed Easter Sunday to all my Actifit friends. I hope everyone was able to enjoy a peaceful and rewarding day outdoors.
Lulu and I headed up high above Flagstaff to enjoy a wonderful 5 mile hike through the spectacular scenery around Humphreys Peak.

The conditions were clear and brisk as were were over 9000 feet in elevation with Humphreys Peak towering yet another couple of thousand feet above us, snow still scattered on its slopes. The ground along our hiking route was damp and muddy with a rare patch of snow still lingering in the shadows

The first couple of miles took us up a lucky and rocky section of trail that winds up through thick forest to eventually crest up at the top of the mountain. That route would be about 9 miles round trip through high elevation conditions so we turned back as the trail became more rugged and step and then joined up with a much more mellow and scenic loop through a large aspect forest.

The Arizona Trail runs through these peaks going from the Mexican border and traversing the entire state. Here I could head off towards the north and into Utah (180 miles) or south all the way down to Mexico (810 miles). Of course I opted for the easier miles looping through the high alpine meadows.

The high altitude made what was a mellow loop pretty taxing and I was breathing quite hard as we headed up the last uphill stretch and a welcome rest and drink.
