Zölle gegen Mexico und Kanada wurden ausgesetzt, offiziell 30 Tage "pausiert", nachdem die Präsidentin und der Premierminister von Mexico und Kanada ihre Knie gebeugt und versprochen haben, noch mehr gegen illegale Migration und den Drogenhandel zu unternehmen.
Jetzt wissen wir auch mit Sicherheit das Motiv hinter den Zoll-Drohungen, Trump setzt Zoll-Drohungen als politische Waffe ein, um Zugeständnisse zu erpressen.
Das kann aber auch schnell nach hinten losgehen, vor allem wenn sich die Drohungen gegen die engsten Verbündeten der USA richten und die Zölle oder Sanktionen auch die eigene Wirtschaft hart treffen würden. Diese Taktik kann kurzfristig erfolgreich sein, zerstört aber auch viel Vertrauen, das erst mühsam wieder aufgebaut werden muss.
Denke, dass Zölle gegen die EU oder UK damit unwahrscheinlicher geworden sind.
China steht jetzt mit dem 10%-Zoll alleine da und wird sich das wahrscheinlich auch nicht gefallen lassen. Andererseits kann China vermutlich mit einem 10%-Zoll gut leben. Das würde eher die Inlandspreise für die Amerikaner verteuern und wenig ändern, und eher wie eine zusätzliche Steuer wirken. Bin gespannt, wie China jetzt auf die neue Situation reagieren wird.

Tariffs against Mexico and Canada have been cancelled, officially “paused” for 30 days, after the president and prime minister of Mexico and Canada bent the knee and promised to do more against illegal migration and drug trafficking.
Now we know for sure the motive behind the tariff threats, Trump is using tariffs as a political weapon to extort concessions.
However, this can also backfire quickly, especially if the threats are directed at the US' closest allies and the tariffs would also hit their own economy hard. This tactic can be successful in the short term, but it also destroys a lot of trust along the way that has to be painstakingly rebuilt.
I think that tariffs against the EU or UK have now become less likely.
China now stands alone with the 10% tariff against them and will probably not put up with it. On the other hand, China can probably live with a 10% tariff. It would tend to make domestic prices more expensive for Americans and change little, acting more like an additional tax. It will be interesting to see how China reacts to the new situation.
