Once when I was talking to my son's wife she commented that it would be difficult for her to live in a place like ours where the colors are the same all year round.
She is Spanish and is used to the dramatic changes that occur in the landscape in different seasons. But although we in the tropics do not have such dramatic changes, we can appreciate some differences throughout the year.
All my childhood and until my adolescence I lived in the west of the city of Caracas, at that time there was a lot of fog, there were times when at four o'clock in the afternoon everything was covered with a blanket of white, which sometimes was so dense that you could not see the other people.
I liked the fog because I knew it would only last a short time, each dawn would dissolve it and give way to sunlight. But on rainy days that fog could last all day and in those moments a great sadness would come over me, I don't know why but that gray atmosphere of little sun and a lot of fog always makes me sad. I think it is because the fog does not let me see the blue sky. Actually, it would be very difficult for me to live in a place where there is fog for a large part of the year.

The time of the year that I liked the most was the last quarter and until the end of January. In those four months the sky of Caracas was covered with a clear, intense and deep blue, where beautiful clouds were drawn.
That sky was the gift that nature gave us to celebrate Christmas, which for us is in December. And maybe that's why I love blue so much, because I relate that beautiful sky with the Christmas season, which in Venezuela has always meant joy and family togetherness. In Maracay, the city where I live, you can also see beautiful skies at that time of the year.
I also like blue because I relate it to the sea. I was lucky enough to live for a few years of my adolescence in La Guaira, a coastal area a few kilometers from Caracas. Most of the coast of La Guaira has very deep waters, so the sea is almost always a very intense blue, in which the white of the waves stands out in a very beautiful way.
It was in those deep blue waters that I learned to swim, on my own, without anyone to teach me, splashing and swallowing water until one day I finally managed to float. Being able to move in the water has been without a doubt one of the great experiences of my life. I taught all my children to swim in the pool from a very young age. One of the things I love is to sit on the shore of the beach and contemplate the characteristic blue of the Caribbean sea.

Since I have been living in Maracay I have also learned to love the greens. I have had the good fortune to live for many years in a mountainous area, my house is surrounded by trees. Every afternoon I sit on my porch and I can distinguish the great amount of greens that each tree has, each small bush, each bush in its vase. Looking at those greens also fills me with peace and tranquility.
I have no doubt that the colors I like the most are blue, green and yellow, they all speak to me of the great magic of nature.
