“Nadie lo sabe todo, pero todos sabemos algo” (Pierre Lévy)
Hoy me vino a la mente la idea del pensamiento colectivo. Y he encontrado esta frase que engloba la colectividad como una masa de conocimiento generada en conjunto. Quizás todos sin saberlo, sin darnos cuenta colaboramos a que esa telaraña de conocimiento crezca y se expanda por rocovecos inimaginables, incomprensibles.
Y pensando en un grupo de seres que por alguna razón coincidimos en una pequeña, y al mismo tiempo enorme, célula de pensamiento colectivo, me pregunto, especialmente pensando en la comunidad HIve, si todos sabemos algo; ¿qué sabemos los que estamos en la comunidad Hive?
¿Qué conocimiento nos trajo a Hive? ¿Qué (des)conocimiento alejó a los que dejaron de estar activos?
¿Tenemos futuro los que seguimos, o sólo nos ha atrapado el algoritmo?
Podría seguir con una lista infinita de preguntas, unas intentando animar, otras todo lo contrario. La única certeza es que sólo el tiempo nos dará la razón o nos confirmará que estábamos equivocados.
Rectifico lo de la lista infinita de preguntas. Creo que sería una lista finita. La extensión dependería de qué tanto es ese algo que sabemos, o qué tanto es ese algo que no sabemos.
La curiosidad me llevó, por casualidad o por destino a Pierre Lévy. Y he encontrado esta imagen en Wikipedia que refleja muy bien la idea de colectividad, de inteligencia colectiva. Me hace pensar en lo mágico que es cómo nos vamos reinventando cada día. Quizás el dicho ese filosófico de “nadie se baña dos veces en el mismo río” (lo dijo Seneca?) Lo podemos aplicar a Hive: Nadie se baña en el mismo Hive dos veces.
Regresando a las preguntas, se me ocurren algunas de las que parcialmente podría dar respuesta:
¿Cuántos Hivers saben del mal sabor de boca de ser Muteado?
¿Quiénes han experimentado el triste disminuir de un seguidor? (Luego te das cuenta que cada quien es libre de elegir a quien seguir y a quien dejar de seguir.).
¿O ese mal sabor del vota negativo?¿O el spamming de tu cuenta sin saber qué está pasando?
¿O el mensaje entre amenazante e intrigante de los Hive-Watchers? Alguna vez he leído testimonios de usuarios que tristemente avandonaron su cuenta ante lo que ellos consideraron acoso, ya sea por esa policía Hiveriana o por los votos negativos de ballenas.
Al paso de los años, uno se va dando cuenta que muchas cosas se parecen a la vida real: Los que tienen más poder pueden bajar la moral (y la cuenta) entre uno y más votos negativos.
Y al igual que en esta otra dimensión que llamamos vida diaria, uno se va dando cuenta que de repente los mismo, casi los mismos que te apoyan una y otra vez están allí; no sé si leerán sólo el título, o se deslizarán por el texto y se detendrán en alguna que otra idea. Y los más valientes (¿debería decir los más motivados?) Se atreven a dejar algún comentario, quizás sin saber que hay una gran posibilidad de recibir algún apoyo en fracción de la(s) moneda(s) del ecosistema.
No sé por qué me puse melancólico hoy y esa melancolía me arrastró a pensar en la colectividad de Hive, esa red que pocos podemos imaginar lo enorme que va siendo cada día. Y quizás como el universo mismo no deja de expandirse, con todas y sus acaloradas opiniones entre unos y otros: Qué si el que retira HIVE es una especie de traidor, que si el que vota al 100% es un condescendiente, que si se fijan en tu Wallet antes de hacer click en Seguir, que si ven si estas activo o inactivo, que si usas IA, que se prohiba el uso de esas asquerosas cosas que parecen invención de demonios dominantes, de fuerzas manipuladoras que están exterminando la creatividad. Afortunadamente también hay los aceptan que ya están entre nosotros, que llegaron para quedarse y que si no aprendemos a vivir con esas potentes herramientas, entonces quizás sí ocurra un seguro exterminio de la creatividad; y quedemos condenados, supeditados a algo más poderoso que los invisibles algoritmos.

The idea of collective thought came to my mind today. I came across this quote that perfectly captures collectivity as a shared mass of knowledge. Perhaps, without even realizing it, we all collaborate in making this web of knowledge grow and expand into unimaginable, incomprehensible crevices.
And thinking about a group of people who, for some reason, converge in a small, yet at the same time enormous, cell of collective thought, I wonder—especially with the Hive community in mind—if we all know something, what exactly do those of us in Hive know? What knowledge brought us here? What gaps in understanding or disillusionment drove away those who are no longer active? Do those of us who remain have a future, or have we simply been caught by the algorithm?
I could go on with an endless list of questions, some meant to encourage, others quite the opposite. The only certainty is that only time will prove us right or confirm we were mistaken. Actually, I take back the "endless" part. I think it would be a finite list. Its length would depend on how much that "something" we know really is, or how much that "something" we don’t know actually covers.
Curiosity led me, by chance or destiny, to Pierre Lévy. I found this image on Wikipedia that beautifully reflects the idea of collectivity and collective intelligence. It makes me think about how magical it is that we reinvent ourselves every day. Perhaps that old philosophical saying, “No one ever steps into the same river twice” (Was it Seneca?), can be applied to Hive: No one ever steps into the same Hive twice.
Returning to the questions, a few come to mind that I could partially answer:
How many Hivers know the bitter taste of being muted?
Who has experienced the quiet sadness of losing a follower? (Later you realize everyone is free to choose whom to follow and whom to leave behind.)
Or that bitter aftertaste of a downvote? Or having your account spammed without understanding why?
Or those messages from Hive-Watchers that hover between threatening and intriguing? I’ve read testimonies from users who sadly abandoned their accounts over what they considered harassment, whether from that “Hiverian police” or from whale downvotes.
Over the years, one gradually realizes that many things mirror real life: Those with more power can crush morale (and an account) with just one or more downvotes. And just like in this other dimension we call daily life, you eventually notice that the same—or almost the same—people who support you time and again are still there. I don’t know if they only read the title, skim through the text, or pause on a particular idea. And the bravest (or should I say, the most motivated?) dare to leave a comment, perhaps unaware there’s a good chance of receiving some support in fractions of the ecosystem’s tokens.
I don’t know why I got melancholic today, but that mood dragged me into thinking about Hive’s collectivity—that network whose true scale few of us can fully grasp as it grows every day. And perhaps, like the universe itself, it never stops expanding, complete with all its heated debates: whether those who withdraw HIVE are traitors, whether 100% upvoters are condescending, whether people check your wallet before hitting Follow, whether they monitor your activity status, whether you use AI, whether those "disgusting" tools that look like inventions of manipulative forces exterminating creativity should be banned. Fortunately, there are also those who accept that these tools are already among us, here to stay, and that if we don’t learn to live alongside these powerful technologies, we might indeed face the certain extinction of creativity, leaving us condemned and subjugated to something far more powerful than invisible algorithms.
