Reevaluation Is Healthy

in Reflections9 days ago

It's said that in life there are two certainties: death and taxes. I'd argue there's a third: change. Life doesn't stay static. Even if someone chose to sit and do nothing, the world changes around them and they get older. Change is guaranteed and inevitable.

Reevaluation Is Necessary
Since things around us change, the logical conclusion for those wanting to progress or just "keep up" is to make periodic reevaluations and adjust accordingly. One example of this is I stack gold and silver. Over the last year or so, gold price has increased dramatically. A few years ago it was under $2000/oz. These days it's over $4000/oz.

I switched to buying silver instead, which was much cheaper at around $25/oz. Ever since about March, however, price has climbed to where it now sits at $67/oz. That's a huge jump!

As a result, I've stopped buying silver bullion. Instead, I've been buying up lots of Sterling silver, selling the premium pieces and sending the rest off to be refined into pure silver. I then sell off the silver bars I get back to cover my remaining costs and keep the extra silver for myself. It's a slow process, but it's far better than paying $67/oz.

Continuous Adjustment Makes Change Easier
I've found that as I reevaluate and make adjustments more often, it becomes progressively easier. Small changes require less time to asses and adjust, and larger changes are easier to analyze and make decisions.

With the recent changes to rewards from the hard fork, the HSBI program has had to make adjustments. They introduced a new HSBIDAO token as an alternative to holding HSBI shares, and token holders are paid curation dividends in more HSBIDAO. These tokens can be sold back for HIVE at any time. It's an interesting proposition I've decided to pursue. I like the better liquidity and I can compound curation earnings this way. It was a big decision, but I'm confident with it. If it turns out I regret the decision, then it'll be a lesson learned and I can always look at getting back into HSBI shares. I can always change.

Nice! I've been looking for deals on sterling as well, not many to be found though. You have a great plan right now, keep it up!

It is wild how good the bing AI is. Not that long ago everyone had like 10 fingers on one hand XD

Do you have any issues with the silver degrading? I have seen instances where people polish it and it removes some of the silver.

reminder I am very much not a silver bug and am way out of the loop on this stuff

Right? It still does that depending on which version you use. This was created using their GPT-4o option which is supposed to provide much more realistic people and details.

Silver doesn't typically degrade. It will tarnish over time, but you can polish it off since it's just a surface level chemical reaction. I'm curious where you saw it remove an actual layer of silver, unless they were using a chemical dip. That stuff is acidic and does remove a layer off the surface. For usable things you can buy special polishing cloths that won't damage the item. For coins, it's not recommended to clean them unless they don't have collector value. For rounds and collectibles you can put them in an air tite to prevent them from tarnishing. At the end of the day, though, silver is silver whether it's tarnished or not. 😁

Thanks! This is good context!

Yea I was reading if you try to clean the tarnish a tiny amount will come off. Guessing they were using chemicals based on what you said.

I do think it’s interesting because I don’t believe gold tarnishes.

But gold is a weird metal. Like it’s almost alien or something 🤣
