Gilda watched him with the composure that comes from rigorous study. When it was her turn to speak, she adjusted her symbolic robe and, with a clarity that silenced the murmur in the corridors, declared firmly: —Can’t find the evidence.
Under the professor’s astonished gaze, Gilda explained in impeccable Spanish that rhetoric is no substitute for reality. She argued that, as a fundamental principle of law, the presumption of innocence is not a procedural favour, but an insurmountable pillar. Se es inocente hasta que se demuestre su culpabilidad
El ambiente estaba cargado de una tensión académica casi tangible. El joven que fungía como Fiscal, con una voz engolada pero vacía de contenido, lanzaba acusaciones basadas únicamente en conjeturas y juicios de valor. Hablaba de "sospechas razonables" y "perfiles conductuales", pero sus folios estaban huérfanos de huellas, documentos o testimonios directos que vincularan al acusado con el delito.
