Second lecture
https://hive.blog/hive-163521/@unkleb4life/how-to-add-and-subtract-decimals-easily
We will be dealing on how to add and subtract decimals in other cases
Example; find the sum of 5 and 3.025
Firstly, arrange it out neatly
N/b; take note of the whole numbers which are 5 and 3
The biggest number should be on top
5
+ 3 . 0 2 5
= 8 . 0 2 5
EXPLANATION
Always start from the last number by your Right have side.
Step 1 : since there is nothing on top of 5, we bring 5 down. (This only works for Addition).
Step 2 : since there is nothing on top of 2, we bring 2 down, do the same to 0
Step 3 : add 5 + 3 = 8
Example 2 ; find the difference between 5 and 3.025 ( difference mean subtract (-)
5
- 3 . 0 2 5
= 1 . 9 7 5
EXPLANATION
step 1, fill in the empty spaces with zeros, to make it 5 . 0 0 0
Step 2, starting from the last number from your Right hand side,
0 - 9 = cannot, This is because, if you have nothing in your purse, you can't give out to anyone.
Check the next number, and borrow 1. But the next number is still zero, so you move to the real number which is 5, borrow 1 from 5
5 - 1 = 4, so it's remaining 4.
Join the 1 you borrowed to the next number 0, and it will turn 10.
Borrow 1 again from that 10, 10 - 1 = 9
Join that 1 you borrowed to the next number 0, and it will turn 10.
Borrow 1 from that 10, 10 - 1 = 9
Join that 1 you borrowed to the next number 0, and it will turn 10.
Since that is the last number,
10 - 5 = 5
9 - 2 = 7
9 - 0 = 9
4 - 3 = 1
So your final answer is 1 . 9 7 5
