Only Five Thousand Steps Today

in Actifit2 days ago

I worked from home today and basically sat all day in my chair without getting up, because we had a production issue and I was troubleshooting as well as working on a prototype for our next content management system.

For over ten years we have used Sitecore content management system, but Sitecore has changed their product strategy and is no longer offering a stand alone content management system. In fact they are not even offering a product that can be self hosted in a cloud or on premise.

Their new product is Sitecore AI and it is hosted by Sitecore and is basically a software as a service. We like full control and have standardized on Azure Kubernetes containers. We are still hosting their Sitecore XP 10.4.1 version which is their latest version of the product that came out about a year ago.

So I am building a prototype based on Umbraco open source content management system. They unfortunately don't offer a container version, so I will have to build our custom container image from scratch and not based on a vendor provided base image.

So this is what I am working on these days. After work I drove to Shoreline to pick up my mother in law. Today was her eightieth birthday and we drove her and our daughter to a seafood restaurant in Kirkland.

Her son and my wife's brother also came out though he was complaining about the timing that was close to the rush hour and that he had to come over from Seattle. His girlfriend also came after her full day of dog grooming.

Overall we had a good time and the food at RockCreek Seafood & Spirits was excellent! We ordered octopus, calamari and poke appetizers and then everyone had their own main dish me and my brother in law had Chilean Cod, my mother in law had king salmon and his girlfriend and my wife ordered Halibut.

Me and our daughter had ginger beer and my wife had some non alcoholic cocktail, my brother in law has sparkling wine and his girlfriend had a regular beer. We ordered French bignettes for a dessert and my mother in law had a chamomile tea for her drink at her eightieth birthday celebration.

Only 5K!
I am celebrating when I reach this number : )
Have a great day!

Thank you :) I usually like to get at least ten thousand steps and a bit step day for me is 20K or above...

Sounds like a very productive and content day!

Yes, it was a nice day to be honest and a break once in a while is probably a good thing actually...

A friend of mine works as IT person for a German government agency, a small one. They used a company that did the same at Sitecore, switching to cloud hosted models. Now, they say that you can have all the data stored on a serve in Germany, which is a requirement as it's sensitive data. The department was about to sign that deal, when my friend had them read the fine print - all data would be processed through AWS in the US. Stored on a German server, but the active cache was in the US.

He got them to switch to an open source alternative. Which he tailors to their needs so well that the department is telling other department about it.

Here is an interesting thought for you, here in Washington state under the current administration commercial entities can be forced to share their data with federal government even if that data does not belong to them. So Washington state and other local government entities do not want their data to be shared with the federal government so cloud data storage is no longer the preferred option for those reasons...

Same is going on in Europe. They're now trying to reduce the impact of US companies running their products in sensitive areas. Now the European companies just have to deliver the same quality and development, which is a little complicated with all the bureaucracy.

Wow happy 80th birthday to your mother-in-law! That's such a blessing !INDEED 🎉It's always good to be able to celebrate milestones with family and loved ones. Thank you for sharing more beautiful photos. Happy midweek!
