Another boring volunteer shift at the hatchery but the weather was nice in the afternoon so Lulu and I headed up into Spearfish Canyon for a nice hike.

The trailhead parking lot was busy but the majority of people were headed out towards Roughlock Falls but we headed out in the opposite direction towards Savoy Pond. That spot was once a pond that fed water down to a hydroelectric plant several miles away that produced power for the Homestake gold mine.

The path was nice and level and the route was an easy hike. Plenty of flowering plants and shrubs and the recent rain has helped to nourish the landscape and everything is looking nice.

Four miles out and back so a nice day.
