SourceI got home from my work break and was desperate to check out a good movie at the theatre. I actually ended up watching Avatar: Fire and Ash at the theatre, but I checked out Send Help on bootleg and decided to review this film. I had checked out the trailer for Send Help prior to going to the theater, and had planned on watching this movie at the theatre, but the movie was sold out for my friend that I was watching the movie with. After watching Send Help at home on bootleg, I’m glad I watched Avatar: Fire and Ice in 3D at the theatre even though Send Help was a overall fun movie to watch.
I went into the movie expecting a survival, adventure, thriller, type film, and although the movie had elements of those genres, Send Help was more of a comedy than anything else. As I watched the movie, I kept finding myself saying this “this is kinda funny for real”. The comedic elements just seemed to land a lot better than the elements of the other genres.
SourceSend Help follows Linda Liddle, an employee at a company who has been mistreated by her coworkers and boss at the workplace. She goes on a business trip with her boss and a few coworkers and everything on the plane goes to shit. The plane crashes and she’s forced to survive on an island with the other survivors of the crash who had been an asshole to her up till the moment the plane crashed.
Little did they know Linda Little was well read on survival tactics and had practiced skills necessary to survive in the wild. She was prepared for a moment just like this. She used her skills to turn the tables and show her value to people who had mistreated her in the office.
Of course she takes her opportunity to get revenge a little to far, which gives the movie it’s thriller elements, but she doesn’t take it far enough in my opinion. She was more of a funny goofball that got lucky than an evil opportunistic villain getting revenge on her wrong doers.
Her boss was a good “bad boss” character. He was an asshole in a funny way throughout the movie and a funny “useless rich princess” type in the on the island.
The jokes in Send Help landed and the characters played well off each other. There were times where I wanted to see Linda go darker getting her revenge on the boss, but maybe that just my own blood thirsty opinion. The plot moves along nicely and most things seem to make sense considering the overall feel of the movie. They go for a plot twist that that kinda reminded me of the plot twist in the movie “Old”, but slightly less stupid. And all though that plot twist was executed well, it was still kinda dumb and made for a disappointing ending to an overall fun movie.
Overall, Send Help was entertaining throughout. It’s a funny movie with likable characters whose plot feels like it’s influenced darker thrillers without going all the way there. The movie isn’t what I thought it would be based off the poster and trailer but I still enjoyed watching it. The only thing I didn’t like about Send Help was the ending, but hey… With all that being said, I rate the movie Send Help:
