AI Replacing The Dead? Black Mirror

The future? This is already happening. The /chatGPT subreddit is full of people talking about how they are using it to "talk with" their dead relatives. They show chatgpt a lot of the writing of the relative and then the AI pretends to be that person.

This will, of course, only get more and more. I've never seen that Black Mirror episode, but I've been saying that for years: in the future no one will "die" anymore. As soon as they die for real, an AI will take take their place. Imagine a room of your home with AI versions of your entire ancestry, available to talk whenever you wish. It won't even require scanning things in for people who are already alive, as some currently do with chatgpt and as you describe in that episode, as most living people have already interacted enough with AI for AI to be able to mimic them to some degree.

Is this a bad thing? I don't know. The actually person will be long gone. It's not like we are capturing their consciousness in the machine. So would this kind of computer mimicry be that different that staring at photos of them? Most people never really know anyone further back than their grandparents. Even their grandparents they often only know as happy old people who always gave us candy when we visited. AI might provide the chance for people to actually meet and get to know their family in a way that's impossible right now.

I 100% agree with what you said. AI can help us feel close to those we lost — maybe even understand our roots better than ever before.

But here's where it gets dark… We're already seeing people creating AI versions of loved ones and doing more than just talking — some are even using it for intimacy or romantic fantasy.

That’s where the line blurs for me. I know it’s not really them, but as a human who's felt loss… I can’t lie — I get it.

That loneliness, that need to 'feel' them again. But still, something about it feels wrong, like playing God in a way that distorts grief instead of healing it.

(anyway I really love seeing everyone has their own perspective on this the conversation I have with everyone here is very interesting thank you for taking an interest)

It has both the negative and positive aspect!

The story in the series in you have mentioned, is pretty scary and negative aspect, I think. It's quite natural to feel "everything lost" following death of the close one but it's the way human are living their lives! Going beyond nature (against the Creator's rule) is destructive!

Exactly. That’s the scary part. When we try to replace what’s lost instead of accepting it, we lose more than we think. Grief is meant to be felt, not bypassed with tech. Some things are not meant to be touched by human hands, especially not the soul. Playing god never ends well. Appreciate your insight.

I’ve watched every episode. Most interlace with one another, different time period of the same technologies. The one where the American in Europe tests the “video game” stuff is the beginning of where the tech came from in other episodes such as White Christmas & Hang The DJ. It indeed is the dystopian future!

Damn, now it makes total sense. 'Hang the DJ' felt like the 'friendly' version of the tech from White Christmas — same mind-copying system, just used for love instead of torture.

Still messed up when you realize all those versions of people were living entire lives… just to be deleted for data. We’re cheering for digital slaves and don’t even realize it.

Also funny you mentioned white chirstmas I just finished watching that few hours ago it was quite a stressful episode to watch.

The Episode “Play Test” is where that tech begins. If u follow it , u can see it’s the beginning and the company didn’t know how time could pass differently when in the virtual world. When u put it together u see ur watching the same world during different periods. !PIZZA !ALIVE
