Hello friends and Hivians. I have been a bit busy of late as I just got back from a short vacation to Las Vegas. Today, I take you on an unplanned walk I took.
It all started this past Sunday morning as I wanted to check out the Las Vegas strip by myself. I boarded a bus, which I thought would take me there. Long story short, it was a bus that made stops to the airport, the Unversity of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), an outlet mall and a few other places but there were no drops off at the strip. I was on that bus for a good 90 minutes and it didn't return to the original pick-up place either.
I ended up getting dropped off about a mile from my hotel. The walk I will show you was in downtown Las Vegas near an area called Fremont. This was the first time ever I used navigation on walk because I had no idea how to get back to my hotel, haha. Have you ever used navigation on a walk?
So today, I will share a few murals. I ran into so many murals in this short walk. The city itself has plenty of them. It was an unexpected surprise, and it took a bit longer to get back to my hotel, which I didn't mind.
Quite a few of the murals I will share were painted for the Music and Mural Festival that happens annually. The painter on this one is Raul Oprea. This mural is of Elvis Presley during his final period of his career. He's dressed in one of his iconic suits and the frames around him contain many details about him and the songs he played. So Elvis has not left the building!
The painter on this one is Franck Noto. It is very colorful and it has a lot of action going on. This one also got me thinking of snacks and food, hehe.
Argentinian artist and digital illustrator; Mau Lencinas is responsible for these three murals, but it was executed by artist Melissa Xiloj. To me, these really scream the new generation and a bit of the new party lifestyle. These seem to be very fitting murals for Las Vegas.
The artist on this one was Tony Castillo. What we have here is Frank Sinatra, who is among the most famous of the Rat Pack. There entertainment was at its high in the 50's and 60's and they would have entertained Las Vegas many times.
A little more information on this mural. Its title is The Sleeping Knight and crdeit goes to a duo of artists known as Etam Cru. We all can probably relate to being sleepy. I feel maybe this setting is in a church and maybe this individual is looking for answers.
I couldn't find much on this one. A mermaid, I can't help to be saved by one. Worst case, she would make a good fishing partner, right? I see aware printed on the mural which makes me think its meaning is to be aware of your surroundings. The bill board above the mural I got a laugh at. I guess it's a fitting saying in Las Vegas to not press your luck if it's not going as planned, haha.
I couldn't find a title or an artist for this mural, but I think I figured out its meaning. The mural is very colorful and shows what appears to be a past Las Vegas. Maybe the bird is holding the key to the city while the turtle with mirrors on its shell means take your time here. Of course, the city does want your money after all.
Usually, the biggest for last but this time the smallest to wrap up some of the murals I saw. This one just brings good vibes to me. The pink panther drinking a martini perhaps surrounded by cash with not a single worry. How many of us have this dream? I couldn't help but think this would make a nice t-shirt.
Not a mural, but it was the last significant thing I saw on my walk. It's the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement. I was initially thinking another post about a museum, but the $35 entrance fee shooed me away. I thought, who is the crook who wants this much? Anyways, the Mob had a big precence here. I'm sure there are buried treasures and some unfornate individuals in the dessert. It's too bad this museum was just around the corner from the hotel I stayed at.
Thats all I have for you, rest assured, I will have more about Las Vegas. This posts also serves as walk for the #wednesdaywalk hosted by @tattoodjay. Thanks for stopping by and reading. Take care, stay safe and enjoy the rest of your week. Until next time!
