Hello Asean Hive Community
In general, you can not be considered as decent if you have no car. People here in Indonesia tend to see having a car as a necessity to tell others that you are not a poor people. You are no longer lower class people, and you are eligible to be in middle class people.
As an Indonesian, I can not say that stereotype is wrong, even though I disagree with that. People still see whether a man have a decent job or decent pay by seeing what car he drives, where he lives, where his office is. I think it is quite similar to all Southern Asia region.
I have a car too, and when I was younger, I tend to pick car that is cool for my ages, and a bit pricey. Pricey in term that not the cheapest but not quite expensive too.
I would not deny that during my younger day, I had lived in that stereotype too. When I bought the first car with my money, my late father came and scolded me because I picked the car that he disliked and he believed it did not represent how a live should be...
After a big fight with him over which car I should buy, I decided to give in to avoid more arguments. I canceled the order then booked another one. Later I paid it and if you saw me posting with my car, that's the car I bought.
This car has been with me for 13 years, and it has reached 159.474 KM. it is almost 4 times of driving around the globe, our globe is around 40.000 KM for the circumference distance, that's if we take a plane and flying in a straight line.
Actually the first 5 years, this car only had 20.000 KM distance recorded in its Odometer. I started to drive it hard in the last few years, because after Covid pandemic hit us, I rely all my activities on this car.
I drive out from my house from early morning, around 7 a.m and I often come back home near midnite. Today at 9 p.m I was still driving on my car, heading back to my home. I do not do online delivery, or online taxi things. Did those during Pandemic due to no job at all, however the current one is due to doing multiple jobs so I have to be on office or project site till night.
This is how Open Ai changes my picture or selfie to an anime style version. I do not like showing my real face here, so I let AI to do its cantoonization for my face lol.
I think even AI knows well I was very tired for a 14-16 hours doing your activities outside, till you get back home at midnite. Whenever I have a tough day, I decide to stay out late, on coffee shop or on some street food stall. I do not want to bring negative energy and emotions into my house, so I stay out till I think I have cooled down.
Every week I spend around Rp 400.000,- for my gasoline, it is around 24 USD. I know it is cheap for some region outside Asia, but it is not cheap at all here. I still have to pay around 20-25 USD per week for toll fee and parking fee. And I haven't counted in the maintenance fee for my car.
So for me right now, a car is my life line. Without it, I can not go to work, I can not be at work, and I can not do my work. It is no longer as part of my wealth, it is just an equipment that enabling me to do my jobs.
Can I change my car to newer one? Yes I can, but I see no point by doing so. For me this car even it is my life line, it is part of the place where I spend hours and days of my life, it is useless to spend more on it. I hate this car a lot, regarding it's my late father choice, but why would I change it? I do not see car as a wealth or asset that increase our status.
For some maybe yes, but not for me. I am sorry if my words here are sharps and have a sarcastic content, I guess my heart is not in the good place right now. Please don’t hesitate to give any comment and feedback below
Ok that's all my post today, thanks for stopping by, and have a nice day all!!
Thank you for coming and reading my post. I live in Jakarta, Ex-Capital City of Indonesia. I used to live by making money online, that's why I like being here, on HIVE, and in #PIMP - (Paper In My Pocket) community.
