Wow, It's nice to know that someone is not running after more and more money and enjoying life as well. To me, even if he goes to work... He escaped to rat race or atleast more than half it.

Like you said, u teached him with love and care and it paid off.

now he is proud that his food budget dropped by 70%.

Cooking is a skill everyone should have. He is not just saving on food but also medical bills.

Every financial situation is different and fixed percentages are little more than a guideline

        Thanks for taking the time to respond.

        I was actually reading an article about a man who worked hard until he was 65 years old. He was successful, had a good house, family and large retirement income. But he cried hard when he retired.

        Why?

        He realized that he worked so hard chasing money and position in his company that he missed out on many milestones with his family. He had no hobbies and no friends outside of work.

        He was retiring at 65 and realized he never really lived.

        When my children were 6 and 4 I went from full time to 3 days a week work. It was just enough to pay all the bills and put a little aside. People thought I was crazy but in the end there was no way I was missing out on my children's life. There were absolutely hard times.

        However, seeing my children now and the memories I have with them?

        No regrets.

        Escaping the rat race is possible
        ... but certainly not common :)
