Flesh-eating bacteria, Vibrio vulnificus, may enter a human through an open (cut) wound, or by eating raw or undercooked seafood, especially oysters! This scary bacteria exists in warm water, salty water, and sometimes brackish water, especially during summer months. The symptoms may range from wound infection, stomach upsets, or life-threatening blood poisoning. Recently, some death cases have been reported in Louisiana, USA.
About one in five people with severe infections died, sometimes within just days of becoming ill.
Pretty scary!
