Happy Wednesday friends.
There is this village close to where I live, most times, when I am less busy, I walk there.
It is a journey of about an hour from where I live. The environment is serene and, although they don't have basic amenities like power, good water source and health centers, the inhabitants live happily as though they have everything.
One of the obvious challenges of the place was the lack of an access road, it was just motorcycles that could journey on the road but for cars, it was a bit difficult because the path was narrow and there wasn't a bridge.
Some time this year, I heard that a politician was fixing the road for them but since then I hadn't gone to the place.
Today, I decided to walk down there and I was happy to see the road looking different. Now both cars and motorcycles could ply the road.
However, I caught a sight that got me worried. I expected to see the road looking nice but to my surprise erosion was already destroying it.
I couldn't recognize certain places due to how badly they were eroded. People's farms were affected. It was like part of the farms were cut off.
The one that got me more concerned was the new bridge, the erosion is gradually reaching there and I fear that if something is not done as soon as possible, that bridge might be affected too.
While walking I was wondering why the road wasn't tarred and why there were no proper drainages. If those things were there, erosion would not be threatening the land.
I just hope that, instead of making things better, the new road wouldn't make the land vulnerable to erosion in the near future.
I am someone who believes in excellence, I believe that our work reflects us. Therefore whatever we are privileged to do, we should do it wholeheartedly, giving it our best.
Unfortunately, most people don't take things that way. The engineer who did that work and the politician who gave the work without coming to see what was done both didn't do well and what they didn't know is that they are spoiling their reputation.
Tomorrow if someone has a contract and he sees that kind of work, I doubt he/she would love to hire to people like that.
I was both happy and sad seeing that work, happy because the people now have a road, sad because the work won't last.
Well, my Wednesday was such a long one. I am so exhausted. I had a very busy day at work and I also took one of the longest walks today.
