Now days I got many calls form unknown numbers asking for donations. I do not entertain such calls and straight forward says no to them. How can I send the money to someone just on the base of a phone call, even on the name of donation itself. Approximately 6 year ago I got similar call for donations and person on other side was asking for donations for a donation for a kid suffering from a major illness. I was convinced and sent him some money as per the details shared with me over mail. But this become harassment when I start getting similar calls regular. Even every week I was receiving two or three calls and they call any time, mentioning that I have helped a kid in past so please help this time also. Even I requested every time that I am not in a position to donate money every week but still they use to call me on regular basis. To be honest th3 act of kindness become the nightmare for me. After that incident I decided not to entertain such calls and when some one called me and asked for the donations I straight forward reply them that I do not know you so I do not entertain such random calls.
Charity is not bad and it's one of the important part of our religion also. But making others on the name of charity is one of the bad activity I can imagine people doing those days. And by using the Social Media it becomes more easy and reachable to mor many people. I am happy to help some one I know or even some unknown also but physics present in front of me or thoughts some reliable sources. The money become the prime and people do anything to take it out form your pockets. Our Guru told us to donate 10% of our earnings, the concept was very effective in past and I assume today also if used in wise way. But ensuring the right use of donation and transparency is very crucial and critical when we talked about the donations. I will share one more incident happened to me about 7 year ago. I was unmarried and I started working and was living away from my home town with my friends. One evening we were out to purchase some house hold items. We were walking towards the shop and on the way one person aged around 45 stopped us and asked for the help. Hello explained that he belongs to another stated and lost his wallet during the journey. He was not traveling alone and shown his family standing at some distance form us. He very politely asked for the help and mentioned that he do not asking for money all he is asking is some eatable items like pulses, rice and flour so that they can make their meal as kids were hungry. We believe and took him to the shop and purchase some basic items as asked and handed over to him. When he left the shop keeper advice us not to entertain su h people when we asked why? We were surprised to know the reason. The shop keeper told us they are tricking people, and the items we have purchased for him will be sold by him to some other shop. They are playing same trick every day and as they are not asking for the money directly people believe easily that they are in great need.
Those such incidents totally changed my mindset on charity, I still believe in charity but find it difficult to make sure that it goes to right place. The NGO's use to establish help people but they become one of the source of making money for many people. The use the loopholes in the system to facilitate themself and earn money from same. I prefer to donate in places near to me where I can personally visit.
