Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Team Combos for Beginners

in Splinterlands23 hours ago

I have been playing with the Foundation set lately. Some elements or splinters already come with a complete team like Water, Fire and Earth elements who has a tank, a second tank and attackers from the rear. Other elements like Light and Death still need cards from the Rebellion set to make them viable in games. How do we form teams and #PowerfulCombos? Ideally, a team should have a tank, a second tank, attackers and support units.

Fire Element

In this game, I have the fire element and my team is composed of the following units.

Drybone Megalodon - The tank or the first attacker. Tanks should have a strong defense and high health because they generally get attacked first by all enemy units. Drybone Megalodon is a rare card from the Rebellion set. It has 3 armor and 6 health. If you remember the tutorial then you know that melee and ranged attacks will have to cut through armor first before they decrease the health. Drybone Megalodon's armor will help defend his health from being hit. Also, he has a high melee attack of 3. If you don't have this card then you can use the Foundation card, Beluroc Aegis.

Chaos Furybringer - is an adequate secondary unit. It does not have an armor and high health but it can hit with melee attack because it has reach skill. It can help our tank attack the enemy's tank.

Chaos Evoker - is a card from the Rebellion set. It's a common card but has nice stats and skill. It does 2 magic attack and has burst skill. This skill will hit units adjacent to the target.

Vengeful Monk - is a neutral card which we can use in addition to fire element cards. It has 2 melee attack and can attack from any position because it has opportunity skill.

Ash Archer - is a card that has 2 ranged attack.

Sturdy Axe Warden - another card that has 2 ranged attack.

As you can see, all the units in my team can attack from their position while my enemy has a unit in position two that cannot attack because it is a melee attacker with no skill. My units are also faster because my archon gives my team +1 speed while my enemy units have speed of 1 and 2 only. The combination of my archon buffs, units and unit placement makes #PowerfulCombos that help me win this game.

Water Element

Water is by far my favorite element and I use it whenever possible. The archon gives the team +1 magic attack so my team will be composed of a tank, a second tank, three magic units and another attacker from the rear.

Like the first game, the units in this game all have roles to play and are placed in positions where they can perform their roles well.

Commander Slade - Commander Slade is a rare tank from the Rebellion reward chests. He has 3 attack, 5 armor and 8 health. You can see from his stats that he is a very strong unit and gives me a huge edge against my enemy who doesn't have him.

Colossus Raider - A great unit for second position. He has 2 attack but very low health like the fire element's Chaos Furybringer.

Chaos Adjutant - A magic attacker from the Rebellion chests.

Water-Logged Wizard - A magic attacker from the Foundation set.

Ujurak Elder - Another magic attacker from the Rebellion chests.

Vengeful Monk - He is a versatile card that can be used by all elements.

Like the first game, all my units can attack from their assigned positions. I fully utilized the archon's buff by having three magic attackers compared to my enemy who only has one. He also has one unit that does not attack from second position so I have a lot of advantages in this game.

Earth Element

The same formula is applied when I form teams from other elements. A tank, a second tank and attackers from the rear making sure that all my units are attacking the enemy from their assigned positions. In this battle, the enemy team has powerful combos too but I have the advantage because my archon gives my units +1 health while my enemy's archon does not give any buffs.
