pre-christmas jitters : December 21 2025

in Actifit8 days ago

it has been a while since my last entry and i miss blogging. the last days were simply spent indoors and in the gym. but this sunday, amidst the coldness outside, this feet took me to places. i just went out to eat out for lunch, but i returned home at night.

ueno christmas market

just look at the sheer number of santa clauses, i doubt if you will still think that this event is not related to christmas. i had no clue of this event in the first place, i was surprised myself.

people were really flocking to this park, and i could see many young ones. families and friends were gathered having meals and warm cups of joy. it was very crowded!

and these big decorations were people magnets. when i say there were many santas, i meant that literally. all corners had santa decors in all shapes and sizes. this huge santa was at the front of it all.

1000049911.jpg1000049913.jpg

but i enjoyed these two most. a beer drinking santa, and a santa in shorts playing the guitar is something rare. these were life size though, i would have loved to take pictures with them if i weren't alone.

akihabara main street

1000049923.jpg

closing off a main street is not new to me but having that in akihabara is not common. i remembered long time ago that akihabara streets usually close off during the weekends not until a very ill-fated incident. the streets were never closed off from then on probably to prevent the same incident from happening. that was over a decade ago and i guess it is time to move on.

1000049918.jpg1000049922.jpg

here were some of the ginkgo trees having many leaves left. most leaves already fell for most of the trees. this whole street is lined up with these trees making it picturesque and yellow at peak season.

the shoppers in here were also in festive mood. people were buying anime action figures from left to right. the second hand laptop and cellphone shops were also filled to the brim. people have more money to spend in christmas season really.

i was strolling akihabara when my phone ran off of battery. i got worried a bit but then brushed it off; i guess i am over my cellphone brain-rot days. no cellphone no worry! i lingered some more before walking back home after the slight drizzle. i completely failed to take pictures of the anime convention in one of the buildings in akihabara.

public bath (sento time)

on my way back, i was having this dilemma whether to enter a public hot bath or not. sorry for the full disclosure but i haven't took any bath for the past two days. bathing in winter on the weekends is quite a task, to be honest. if i have nowhere to go then these things can happen. on the way back i fully know that i will be passing by a public bath establishment so i had to make up my mind quick. my mind wandered off to how great it would feel to submerge in a hot pool in this cold weather. you probably know what my decision was.

i felt so relaxed after that i ate a plate of curry before heading home.

bonus

i got this station stamp at ueno hirokoji station smacked in between ueno and akihabara. it was my first stamp with a double train series featured, series 1000 and series 01 of which the latter is the more recent. new train series are becoming more colorful and i love that more.

that is it for today. hope you had fun!

as always, AMPING KANUNAY!

Hey old friend. Been a while. Glad you are still getting out and about. I imagine that hot bath and the curry afterwards was a treat in the cold. Curry sounds good to me right about now. Stay warm my friend.

exactly! comforting warmth for the winter. hope you are doing well over there as well, my friend

doing good here, or as well as can be at least.

any progress is still progress so that is great!
