Warm greetings everyone at Hive and QC Community. Welcome to another beautiful brand new day. How are you doing? I believe you are doing great. It's a privilege to be alive and thriving and to participate in this contest.

According to Wikipedia; a public space is a place that is open and accessible to the general public. Places that are considered public are roads, pavements, public squares, parks, and beaches etc. These places are also in most cases mainly owned and managed by the government or some organizations.

Do you think people take better care of public spaces if they find them beautiful?

No, I don't think so. How beautiful a public space is is not a guarantee that people take better care of them. People visit a park, sit on the seats and step on them without dusting them, they use their convenience and leave it messed up irrespective of how neat they found it. They use a public square for functions, walking into the place they admire due to how beautiful and attractive it is but after the function they litter the environment. I once attended a function in a hotel situated in a very cozy environment. I wanted to use their convenience but was totally disappointed. I opened the first door and it was messed up, I went to the second one, same as the first one. I proceeded to the third. It was not different from others, I had to walk to their lobby and call on one of the staff to get their cleaner for cleaning. This is a place that has running water and some cleaning items but people choose to mess it up for reasons best known to them.

Or is caring for public spaces more closely related to their values and culture?

People behave differently mainly because of individuals' unique behaviour and or their value system and culture. Some people have the belief that certain people with a particular culture lack discipline and personal hygiene. Be that as it may, most characters exhibited publicly by some people could be related by their upbringings, value system and culture. Some lack discipline and personal hygiene. Otherwise, tell me why an adult would use a toilet and not flush it out or not dispose of wastes appropriately. Why would someone in his/her right senses use the road without considering the safety of some other road users, or someone in a vehicle and thrashout a waste through the window. These boil down to their value system and culture.

What do you think would help people take better care of public spaces?

Without instituted laws to keep certain characters in check over the use of public spaces things won't get better. So, to compel people to take better care of public spaces;

• There should be rules and regulations guiding public spaces users to avoid misuse and abuse of such places.
•Defaulters should be sanctioned either by paying a fine or being arrested.
•Defaulters should be made to clean the place if caught.
•Notices stating penalties should also be placed around the environment to serve as caution.
•In places where people pay to visit, caution fees should be included in the payment, to serve as a deterrent for abuse.

Conclusion

Public spaces serve different purposes to our everyday life. Proper use of them should be upheld and this can be achieved if people develop and maintain discipline in their character. Rules and regulations should also be put in place to checkmate users to avoid improper use of such places.

Thanks abundantly for stopping by, it's very well appreciated. See you in my next post.🙏🙌🤗💚✨💪

Imagine hotel toilets being messed up. Anyways, it's public places no one cares because it's not theirs. Having a rules guiding such places will go a long way to prevent people messing up the areas

Honesty, it's too bad. Exactly! Rules may help.

I agree with you, people needs rules and punishment to do the right things.

And the sad part about that is that it's going to keep passing the values from generation to generation until someone learns to behave differently.

That's the point and sad truth too.
