Sometimes, just sometimes, not always, the town seems to be saying goodbye, or perhaps it already has. And that's reflected in its streets, and I walk by taking photos which, perhaps, have more to do with the past than the present. That's how I end up thinking about "EPITAPHS," those usually brief quotes you see on some gravestones in cemeteries, which I, by the way, rarely read... But it could also be about myself and my nihilistic tendencies, which seem to come and visit me from time to time ever since I can remember. Because here in town, there's no shortage of people who tell me, without blinking, looking me straight in the eye: "Things aren't so bad" or "the town is the same as it's always been"... And well, I end up scratching my head and leaving them talking to themselves in the streets with all that optimism which, in the end, seems strange to me. And I usually have my doubts; don't think this is easy. They end up making me doubt even what my photos say and what I observe, and consequently, my own sanity. Because there are many people who approach me and say, "You just insist on seeing the negative and nothing else." And well, maybe that's true; perhaps the "positive" doesn't look so dramatic when photographed, and I'm addicted to drama, who knows... But anyway, whatever the reason, I invite you to continue reading this article and appreciate these "EPITAPHS," which I sometimes, just sometimes, find in the streets...

Algunas veces, solo algunas veces, no siempre; el pueblo parece despedirse o ya haberse despedido. Y eso se refleja en sus calles, y yo paso por allí haciendo fotos las cuales, quizás, tienen más que ver con el pasado que con el presente. Así es como termino pensando en "EPITAFIOS", esas usualmente breves citas que se ven en algunas lápidas en los cementerios, las cuales yo, por cierto, rara vez leo... Pero también puede tratarse de mí mismo y de mi manía nihilista, la cual parece venir y visitarme de vez en cuando desde que tengo uso de razón. Porque aquí en el pueblo no faltan quienes me digan, sin pestañar, mirándome a los ojos: "Las cosas no están tan mal" o "el pueblo está igual que siempre ha estado"... Y bueno, yo termino rascándome la cabeza y dejándolos hablando solos en las calles con todo ese optimismo que, a la postre, ya me parece extraño. Y por lo general dudo, no crean que es fácil esto; pues terminan haciéndome dudar incluso de lo que mis fotos dicen y yo observo, también por ende de mi cordura. Porque es que hay muchos y se acercan y me dicen: "Es que tú te empeñas en ver lo negativo y nada más". Y bueno, puede que sea cierto; a lo mejor es que lo "positivo" no luce tan dramático cuando se le fotografía y yo soy un adicto a los dramas, quién sabe... Pero bien, sea como sea, los invito a continuar adelante en este artículo y apreciar estos "EPITAFIOS", los cuales algunas veces, solo algunas veces, encuentro en las calles...
