Imagining a reaction such as that provides an insight into the individual's mindset. An event has occurred that either startles, frightens, or thoroughly confuses a person to the point that the reaction is immediate and unexpected to anyone observing it. I share a flash fiction story along those lines. I hope you enjoy it.

Ned shrugged watching Ali gasp. *"Distorting the situation as usual."
"Your lackidaisical approach won't get us rescued," she retorted.
"Half empty or half full. I prefer the latter, Ali."
Then take your half. Find the flare pack before dark.
