RE: 🎸Seventies Sunday! With Gene & Ashlee! Picking CBGB’s tunes From 1977! Dead Boys & Talking Heads 🎸

Nice to hear some of the original punk songs. Talking Heads had more fame but were also more Tame. From what I hear from fam stories, The Dead Boys were quite Alive. Stiv the singer was a crazy man. Small in stature but with boundless energy.

This is from fam and is mine now.

An album cover of the first album, signed by all 5 guys. I wonder what it is worth to collectors.

Sonic Reducer is the classic from this album. What Love Is - just flat out rocks hard! Ain't Nothin To Do is somewhat similar in style. Everyone Knows You Were Caught With The... sounds a bit like Wang Dang... from Ted Nugent had an influence; both from around the same time so who knows who heard who. I can hear the New York Dolls and The Ramones influences on the Dead Boys as well. They all played CBGBs so it makes sense.

Very cool set here, thanks for the fun!

Talking heads not punk but I do appreciate them being at the early CBGB’s. I suppose though not punk I do love and respect the bands there early like even Television too. Dead Boys , it’s funny I’ve always been a Ramones guy, and no need to only pick one, but I honestly hadn’t even heard the Dead Boys record until way later and it def did more to influence the eighties so call wave a few years behind. Sonic Reducer is basically an eighties punk song that arrived early. Man what I wouldn’t give to be born decades sooner! I wasn’t born until early eighties. Looking at it glass half full I did get to sing on stage at CBGB’s in 2001, I was in high school and sang a full song with a friends older brothers band. So that was a good feeling at least standing on that stage and pissing in that iconic bathroom. I grew up hour or so north of NYC so got to see many punk shows growing up in late nineties and 2000’s. I was lucky to see the punk scene and last years of a few iconic clubs that closed by 2001. I went to first punk show in middle school like 8th grade. I did see Circle Jerks in early 2000’s on a reunion tour so yeah I got to see more punk than kids today but man I just wish I was there!

Really awesome to read your thoughts and memories of your music history. Singing on stage at CBGBs, WOW! That's huge. Something to always remember.

Thanks again for this punk post and for the interaction where we can remember the good times we grew up on!
