Dragon Age: Origins Playthrough EP 4

in Hive Gamingyesterday

Into the Mages' tower we went.

Upon arriving, we were told that there had been some sort of Demon outbreak, but demons don't scare us, so we ventured forth in an attempt to save any surviving Magi.

The door was barred behind us, so we were stuck there.

The Islands

Initially, the quest was good. We fought through many floors of the tower and killed anything that got in our way.

Then, we were confronted by a sloth demon, who put us in a trance, and I awoke, alone, in a dream world.

I had to fight through multiple islands single-handedly to rescue my companions and defeat each boss to get out of this horrible place.

Bear in mind, though, my character felt very underpowered; I don't have decent gear, and I used all of my health items, so I found this section really tough.

I was getting nuked by certain mages I encountered, I died and reloaded a lot, and one particular encounter was tough to get through that I had to lower the difficulty... which never feels good.

The Final Boss

Upon defeating this boss, we awoke and continued on through the tower to confront the true final boss of this questline.

There were multiple mages trapped, and we fought to save them.

Throughout the battle, they were getting turned into abominations, but I had acquired a book that stopped the demon from turning the mages.

However, I forgot about this book, and sadly, all of the mages died.

Poor Isolde

In the Redcliffe questline, the son of the Arl Connor, has been possessed by a demon who we have to expell.

The options are: kill Connor, kill his mother, Isolde, or go and do the Broken Circle questline to recruit the mages to help expel the demon without anyone dying.

Sadly, I failed that questline, so I was made to choose. It seemed as though the mother was the only decent choice, but it felt terrible and left this entire section of the playthrough depressing.

Zevran

After we left Redcliffe and headed for Denerim, we were encountered by a hired killer who was hired by Loghain.

We defeated him, and because his life was forfeit for failing, he decided to join us.

I remembered this character when he first appeared, but forgot he was a companion of ours.

Funnily enough, my being an elf rogue means that I essentially have two characters in the party who are pretty much the same.

Broken Circle broke me, to be honest, I hated the questline, and it took 3 or more evenings to finally complete.

The fact that I was underpowered didn't help, but also, failing it and Redcliffe kind of sucked the fun out of the game for a while, and I haven't really played it since then.

I am currently in Denerim, and am enjoying it again, but I'm finding it hard to really get back into the game.

Sort:

Glad to see that others are still playing Dragon age origins. DAO is without a doubt one of the best games I ever played. For the longest time it was my favorite non Witcher game. Even greater than Mass effect 2. Only recently I played a few new games that can compete with DAO- Disco Elysium and Baldur's gate 3(still need to finish BG3). Now my best/ favorites games ranking is not so clear anymore. Probably like this:

Witcher 3
Witcher 2
Witcher 1/DAO/ Disco Elysium
Baldur's Gate 3/Mass effect 2
Mafia 1/Mafia 2/ heroes of might and magic 3.

I only recently completed the Mass Effect trilogy, I love those games, and I think that whats made me want to go back to Dragon Age: Origins

I've never played Disco Elysium, or the Balders Gate games, but after finishing this I wouldn't mind jumping into something new rather than returning to games I've already played.

The Witcher series is great too, I think we have similar taste in games. I recently bought the ultimate edition of Fallout: New Vegas which I'd like to do another playthrough of, because I've never played any of the DLC
